Our first day of Co-Op

Today was our first day of Co-Op!
Here are the classes that the kids chose this year:

Julie - Karate,  Board Games
Joseph - Karate, K-nex science
Katie - Fun with Unit Studies, Run Jump & Throw
Annabelle - toddler nursery

Mom's are required to 'volunteer' and so here's where I'll be working
Me  - nursery staff, assistant for Run Jump & Throw (preK/K gym class)

We all had a really nice time, and the older kids loved their classes!
The karate class is especially interesting, as it is  'Christian Karate.'  It is taught by a pastor, and the students learn physical AND spiritual self-defense ( and there's no 'eastern' philosophy.)

Our co-op schedule is different than last year, however, as I am choosing to 'opt-out' of the 3rd hour, which means that I lose my  'socialization' time in the Mom's room.

We chose to do this for several reasons:
the first was financial ( 3 kids x 3 classes = fairly expensive.)
the second was that the kids just weren't all that interested in the 3rd hour classes,
and the third (and main reason) is because Annabelle REALLY needs a nap!

Last year Annabelle had such a hard time in the nursery.  Just about every week they staff would come and get me because she was crying inconsolably.   I thought things would be different this year...after all she's a year older.
I thought ... "I'll stay with her for the first hour and then she'll only have one hour in the nursery.
She'll be okay for that short time, and then we'll leave early and get her home in time for her nap."

Well...today I went back at the end of the second hour and Annabelle had cried herself to sleep.
She woke up as I tried to carry her out to the car and she was NOT in a good mood then - not to mention that she wouldn't nap the rest of the afternoon.

I think maybe next time I'll see if I can just bring her with me to the preK gym class.

Sounds like a lot of fun. We don't have co-ops around here for elementary age. I think it would be fun (although maybe time-consuming??).

Marissa and I do the nursery on Friday morning during the Women's Bible Study ~ there is one little boy who cries as soon as he sees my face. :o(

Your co-op classes sound so much more fun than ours. LOL My ds would love karate.
I hate that your lil one had a rough time. New places are a little scary.

That sounds like a good idea about bringing her to the gym class. She would probably enjoy it, anyway!

I wish there was an answer to my question. Perhaps we just have to be persistent and not give up. I was just wondering if anyone had any things they do beside get upset all the time!

Sounds like fun. I'd love to take a class in board games! I hope Annabelle adjusts quickly. It's tough on the younger ones.
