Our Day at the Hospital

Katie's day at the hospital went pretty well today, even though they were quite 'behind' the schedule. (Her appt was for 8 am, and they didn't start the MRI until almost noon.)
The whole procedure went WAY better than last time, and we thank you all for your prayers!

The nurses today were great, and one even took a cute picture of Katie in her hospital gown.

Katie was given the infamous 'pink drink' which made her really 'loopy.'
It was actually quite comical to watch her watching Dora while all 'spaced out.'
(That is the most intense I have ever seen her stare at a TV - LOL!)

Our good friend "Dr. Joe" took great care of her and, as promised, she didn't have to get any "pokies" this time until she was well under the influence of some laughing gas.

Unfortunately, the same hospital policy was still in effect, and so I still was not allowed to be with her when she came out of anesthesia.
Since it was after 1pm by the time her MRI was finished, (and I hadn't had anything to eat all day...) I took the opportunity to go get a bite to eat in the hospital cafeteria.
Not bad for hospital food, but I still wish I could have been with my 'baby'....

The nurses said that she did great though, and that she didn't even wake up crying, like kids often do.  I was finally allowed to go back to be with her after about 45 minutes, and she was groggy, but in good spirits....(at least...until she discovered the IV in her arm...then she freaked out and started trying to pull it out!)

The nurses quickly removed the IV took her vitals, and discharged us within minutes!

She is now home, resting comfortably, and watching more Dora....

Thank you again for all for your prayers, and I'll keep you posted about the results when we find out more!

God Bless,
Michelle

Glad to hear all is well. I remember how frightening it is to be away from your kiddo when they are going through something like that. I find it amazing they wouldn't let you be with her when she woke up. Crazy.

I meant "while" she was waking up.

Oh that is good! They need to change that policy. Our hospital let me stay with Grace for her entire procedures. I wasn't sure I wanted to see the inside of her colon but I got to!

Thursday, May 15, 2008 - Mmmm, Pink Psychedelic Goo

Our children's hospital calls the pink stuff "happy juice". We were very entertained when our oldest had his first surgery. The wallpaper was covered with stars and moons. He started cracking up because the stars were "dancing" for him. :)

It just stinks that they won't let you be with there when your baby wakes up. Clearly the hospital board isn't made up of mommy's. THAT rule would change really fast!!

I hope you get good news soon!

I'm SO GLAD it went well. That anesthesia can really be a doozy when it isn't just exactly right.
