Pondering....

So...now that we're done with speech and OT.....

The older kids have been saying, (dare I call it complaining,) that we haven't gone on any field trips with the local homeschool group this year, and that we never do anything 'fun' anymore.  So...I'm thinking about signing up for co-op for the spring semester.

It's a hard decision.
When we do co-op, I get frustrated that we have to 'run' more, and I do not like feeling obligated/tied-down.  (Plus it will totally throw our weekly MFW weekly schedule off.)

BUT... it's only for a couple of hours, every other week, and it will give the kids a break.
AND... they are offering fun classes this upcoming semester,
(in areas that we often don't 'make time' for...like art and P.E.)

Here's what they want to take
Julie: volleyball and 3-D art
Joseph: dodgeball & physics fun
Katie and Annie: preschool gym, art, story-time and music (the younger kids get 1/2 hour classes.)

So...to co-op, or not to co-op? ... That is the question at hand.

That sounds like a great way to keep the days from becomin too mundane. I wonder if we have any of those around here??? But I hear ya on the schedule. It seems every time we seem to be in a routine something comes up. If the classes are only for a short time 4-8 weeks long, it might help shorten the winter ;)

I usually don't co-op because I am a big commitment-phobe when it comes to my schedule. I like to be FREE, LOL.

But it does sound like fun! Can you arrange something yourself? We have a homeschool group here that's specifically for field trips and we just sign up and go to the ones that interest us, real buffet style. Do you have anything like that there? That' the only thing Baby Boy and I could tolerate because if I have to go every week on a certain day, I freak out, LOL.

Good luck with your decision.

You don't have a homeschool social group? Our group doesn't have co-op classes. We just meet at the park every other week and go on field trips together. MUCH easier than a co-op. No commitment. Go when we want.

I'd never sign up for a winter/spring co-op. And here is the one reason why....FLU. But my family seems prone to picking up everything that comes down the pike.

If you aren't doing the OT and whatnot, and if it's only every other week, then I say go for it! The kids love co-op. I would be doing co-op except the one close to us isn't going this year. Plus, we have violin and dance - which is enough.

I have to say, I have enjoyed homeschooling more than ever without co-op, but there is still that twinge of gulit sometimes. I tend to think what's best for my kids is to have a mama who is not stressed out.
