At Home With Jesus!

It's been a long week

It has been a difficult week here at our house...jumping back into school after a full week off.
I sort-of expected that, but the reality is - we came back to a very busy week schedule-wise
(Ballet, piano, violin, Pioneers, dentist appointments, and mounds of 'vacation laundry.')
Lessons went undone, naps were missed, there have been tears and raised voices, and I'm feeling like we could use another vacation!

But it's Friday... (Thank You, Lord, for Fridays!)

I don't have a lot to say about our studies this week,
We learned about arches, and how the Romans used arches in a lot of their architecture because the it is a very strong shape.  We did experiments on arches, ( and once we collect enough jello boxes we'll try our hand at building an arch.  - We're not big Jello/pudding eaters here so it's been a slow process)
But I did want to share the nice drawings that Julie and Joseph made of some arched bridges.

Hopefully next week things will have settled down a bit, and we'll be back on track.
If not - I think I've got some more 'tweaking' in my plans curriculum-wise.

Great drawings!

After a week off, you're lucky you got anything done at all.

I believe strongly in decompressing . . . but you know us homeschool Moms . . . such go getters!

Michelle, I'm glad you commented. I was going to ask you how Julie's first lesson went! Is she doing Suzuki lessons? We really don't have any rules here for practicing except for a time allotment each day. Alison has never needed to be prodded -- she loves it and practices without being told. The other two... well, they do need some incentive, but so far I have only used the "because I said so" incentive. It helps to break the practice times up. If she is supposed to do 30 minutes, have her do two 15 min practices. She will accomplish more, and the time will go faster. I saw one family uses "daddy bucks" as incentives:

After a certain number earned, they get a reward of time spent with Dad. I made some just for fun. :o)

We started with Suzuki, sort of... I didn't do the lessons with her, and our instructor skipped a lot of it. I only asked because we're semi-familiar with it. Yeah, I think it can be hard to be motivated in the early lessons. It's not until they start making real music that it becomes fun. Alie's instructor used to play duets with her right from the start. It made the boring Twinkle Twinkles a lot more entertaining! I hope Julie will love playing.

Great drawings. We are having trouble getting back on track after my mom's visit too... partly because we are used to doing fun things instead of school, partly because we had our first snow and the kids would way rather play than do school and partly because mom has hit her messiness tolerance level in the TV room. I don't really watch TV and I kind of ignore it, but... the mess is spreading and I fear it will take over my house.
