From Tiny to Teen

Dec. 16, 2008

Aleks

Aleks is an on-line math program that allows your child to complete math requirements and gain mastery without a text book.

My daughter tried the lowest level (for third grade) along with the Quick Tables feature.  Quick Tables is my favorite element of the program as it shows very clearly the progress being made.  A pie chart of concepts mastered shows exactly where you need to focus your attention.  It is very user and parent friendly, and I liked this about Aleks.

I liked trying the program and my daughter enjoyed doing her math on-line, but I am a little hesitant to surrender our text books just yet.

I think that this would be an excellent tool for High Schoolers who like to work independently.  Access can be obtained 24/7 from any online source.

I like what their website has to offer.  It is a high functioning site with a lot of information in one place, but it is organized very effectively.  It is easy to find what you need and they support their users with training and teacher support.

There are may options when it comes to cost:

$19.95/ month per student

or $99.95/ 6 months per student

or $179.95/year per student.

Family discounts exist and are accesible through their site    http://www.aleks.com/buy_aleks_now/family_discount

I have four children.  If all of mine were old enough to use this product it would cost my family $539.84!  Yikes!

I simply could not afford a product this costly.

However, I was very impressed with the quality of the teaching and the feel of the site.  I did like this product.

If you have the money, and you enjoy online learning over text book materials, I am confident that you will enjoy Aleks.  They are better than other online math services I have reviewed.

Your child will learn with Aleks.  To me, it is just a matter of cost and my personal preference for tangible text books.  It is not a reflection on the company or their value in any way.

So check them out. Maybe even do  free 48 hour trial.  You can find them at http://www.aleks.com/

Happy Learning!

About Me

If you can name all of the characters on Sesame Street, name all of the Jonas Brothers, and can read text faster than most teenagers we have something in common. If you teach a child with speech problems, Sensory Processing Disorder, or a teenager who needs a little extra tlc then you are not alone. I'm wadeing through the new and sometimes wild waters of homeschooling. I'll be honest, sometimes I feel like I'm just treading water. It's gonna be worth it though. I'll be a happy and willing tool in their learning and the world will be blessed by what they become. Welcome to my journal. These are just the ideas, thoughts and feelings of a very tired homeschooler.
