The Frugal Homeschooler

Frugal tip of the day -- Never refuse anything free

Since I started homeschooling almost two years ago, I had something very interesting happen to me.  I had friends and family on the lookout to give me items for our homeschool.  Whether this was my MIL finding us CD Roms of computer games or my neighbor who was cleaning out her spare bedroom, we have been the recipients of many free items.

Now granted, not everything has worked.  I have passed more than a few things onto Goodwill.  And sometimes, we would get half used workbooks with no teacher's key or accompanying texts and they just wind up in the trash...  But we take what we need, and leave the rest.  We got some really neat science readers for next year, a book of Aesop's Fables, and educational software, to name a few.

The neat thing is we get to pass things on to others who are in need.  I love being able to help homeschoolers out with my excess stuff.  Plus, it gives me room for more. :)

Freely ye have received, freely give.  Matthew 10:8b

Isn't it funny how when people know you homeschool, they pass stuff on to you that they think you could use?! We have had this happen a few times and it has been a blessing. When I feel blessed, I always feel the need to bless others. That verse is so true!
psThanks for your comment on my blog!

I really enjoy goodwill stores, garage sales and especially 'mom to mom' sales because they are all in one building and it's all for kids :) We have been the receiver's of many free blessings over the years too!

That is really great that you are blessed like that.
I would love to fall in this free thing but, don't know perhaps the Lord will put me in the right direction. Right now I would love to find homes for some of our stuff.

Hugs,
Sheila

I like the name and message of your blog. I am amazed how much I have wasted on unnecessary stuff for school. The longer I school, the more I realize the less stuff I really need. You are right that anyone who wants to teach on one income can do it because it really doesn't cost that much, and God always provides in an abundance.
