I am sure many of you have heard about the lastest trend of cooking for the busy family are businesses like Dinner By Design or Super Suppers. These are Meal Prep Kitchens where they do all the shopping for you according to the meal plan you choose. A 12 meal plan is on average about $220. That to me is way too much money for 12 Dinners.

This past weekend I was at a Homeschool Mom 1 day retreat and the speaker was Karen Ehman. She spoke about how a group of her friends and herself had been doing a Supper Swap for quite some time now. I thought it was a cool concept so I came home and did a google search about Supper Swap and came across info about an author who wrote a book   Great American Supper Swap.

I have been a supper swap mom for over 5 years now with different girlfriends, and love it so much, I even wrote a book on it called The Great American Supper Swap.

Moms can swap with 1 girlfriend, 2, 3 or 4. If there are 2 of you, you simply double a meal one day, give one to her, and then on anoethr day, she doubels a meal and gives one to you. WIth left overs, there's 3 weekday meals in a snap!

Supper swapping is simple to start and can be tailored to meet the needs of the moms in the group - working moms can swap daily or one day a week to simplify life.

It cuts your cooking by 80%, adds deeper friendship to your life and can save you $4000 a year or more.

I thought this was such a great idea after doing my research, that I am in talks right now with a group of ladies from my church to begin a Supper Swap Club. Here is a great article from Trish Berg's website about Meal Swapping, Trish Berg.

This is the frugal way to do "Dinner by Design". The cost of cooking 5 or 6 of all the same meals is much less then the cost of these "gourmet dinner kitchen prep kitchens".
