Aug. 27, 2008 - Thrifty Fall Wardrobe for my Boys

I love Thrift store shopping for clothes, especially at the Salvation Army Thrift Stores.  The week of August 11-16th our local Salvation Army Thrift Stores they had their annual Back to School Sale where all kids clothes sizes 0-16 were on sale for .47¢ each piece.

I wasn't able to get to the sale until the last day of the sale, but I still got lots of awesome stuff and all in excellent to "brand new" condition.

Here are pics of our "Treasures":

Boys Stuff:

DH's Stuff

The orange hoodie for DH still has the original tags still on and he paid $2. The gray fleece jacket is an IZOD and was $2 also. The blue coat is a London Fog and was .47¢. It is for oldest son Joshua.

My oldest DS Joshua is the only one that really needed an entire wardrobe and I did well for him. I got him about 6 outfits in each sizes 8 and 10. He is currently in an 8, but I got 10 already in case he grows into them in the middle of winter. I was able to get him 3 identical style shirts by Cherokee that are in "brand new" condition. They are long sleeved polo shirts. The only other thing I need for my boys and mainly for Joshua are PJ's. I will hit the Kids Resale in the Fall.(these are held in Schools and Churches)

Some other brands I got for the .47¢ sale are Levi's, Old Navy, Faded Glory, Sonoma, and many others. I am not a "expensive name brand" person, but at those prices I will buy them. I boys are always dressed very nice, without major expense.

Original Tagged Prices: $81.40
Sale Prices Total I paid: $26.00
Total Sale Savings:       $55.40
Total Regular Retail Savings: Not sure, but probably close to $250

I am hoping that the Salvation Army Thrift stores do a 50% off all clothes over Labor Day weekend, as they sometimes do on Holiday weekends. I will be able to shop for DH and I for the fall.

I love thrift store shopping as well! Our local thrift store has 50% off sales every few months, we love 'em! Even our 12 year old thinks it's dumb to pay retail

I love it when thrift stores do their $3.00 bag sale. Its not that often but when it does I shop for me and every body and their brother. LOL.

Today my bargain shopping was the sale at Mervyns. Clothes were $2.00-$10.00 Emma got a couple new dresses for $4.00 each (new would have been $24.00) and I got a couple skirts for $8 and $10 (new would have been $50 each) I normall never purchase there. I mean Never. Have to have a gift card to do so. But I have been having bad luck with the thrift stores and I have been paying that price for used clothes lately. Might as well get the new stuff for the same price! LOL.

Aug. 30, 2008 - pricing

I wonder why they chose 47cents? Would tax make it an even 50?
Our S.A. has different sales all the time.
a bag of linens for $1.00
purses 1/2 off
a certain tag color 1/2 off
baby clothes 4 for a dollar

Our Hospice thrift store will have whatever you can stuff in a bag for $2, but I don't like to go because people can get just plain mean about things.
It's just not worth it.
