Character Training

Posted in Family

After my last post I had to make some changes in my home and with my boys. We have a huge Character deficiency around here and it has gotten out of control. I was reading a blog and at this point I can only say I think it was Tiany's blog (she always has awesome links to share) and stumbled upon an awesome bloggers site  , needless to say I fell under conviction.

I brag often on raising 5 awesome young men of God to lead their familes in the way of the Lord and here I am not instilling in my children Godly Character that is pleasing to Him so ,therefore, I am making changes to our focus in our school day.  I am absolutely going to post this chart in my control journal. Because being aware is key.

Character Training and Life Skills will be the focus for awhile, what good is it to know how to read, write, learn all these things and still have no Godly character seeing as that is where our destiny is...with God.  I have a hard time believing He is going to ask us "So how much do you know?" I think it all goes hand in hand, together in educating our loved ones.

I am on this journey with my kids and I want them to have Character and be examples to others around them. I know that with Jesus by my side He helps me to guide them in ways pleasing to Him.

Thank you to all you moms who commented on the above post, I know I am not alone and it is a struggle we all face. Be encouraged as you all have encouraged me.

Blessings to all.

What To Do?

Posted in School

Okay, my schedule everyday has an activity after the work is done today was the library. Well here's my problem, Ds4's attitude was horrible and I'm not kidding. We started working on Phonics which is our second subject of the day. He started crying getting mad and even disrespectful at times b/c of laziness,he just didn't want to review again. That I can handle. This is my dilemma ...I don't feel he should go to the outing even if it's the Library and I know I should leave him home. What is it that makes me take him anyway?

His attitude was great after I changed my mind and allowed him to go and I did tell him that if he acts like that  again he would not go.  What is going on? I would have never changed my mind when he was younger. What is it that makes me take him anyway?  I have to get an understanding of this.

Your thoughts.

Week 2

Posted in School

Off to an awesome start .  I enjoyed the expression on my boys face when we read God's Creation 1 (Space and Time)for Science today. They loved it and wanted more...finally I have found something that they love to listen to.

The boys did all their work and stuck with me till the end. I am proud of them.

I have changed their day around.  Household responsabilities in the afternoon and a later start in the morning.

On another note my husband got a job transfer, I couldn't be more excited. I pray it is going to be easier the job is only 8 min. away instead of a 30 min drive. It will help so much not to have to spend so much money on gas.  The job also comes with an increase in pay, God is awesome.

Just wanted to share.

Blessing.

Ready set Go

Posted in School

I have just finished my charts for the year, we needed a little organization spread throughout the house.

I have a household(chore seems to tramatic of a word for my men) responsability chart, House hold rules chart so far.

I don't think my husband understood me when I asked him if I could get a bit of help around here, now he does. lol.

I hope it works, I'd really hate to be single again.

In other news...

I am dog,cat and hampster sitting this weekend. I admit I love the dog but the others stink. Oh and I lost their house key in my laundry...pray for me to find it.  Good thing they are related.

Be blessed

Day 3

Posted in School

Evaluation day. How much do they remember?

Well, I am pleased to tell you they remember everything. Thank God.   One week (vs. one trimester) of reviewing concepts and rules and well be back where we were at. I love it.

Ds5 Shocked me the most he gave answers to things he was struggling with and I thought I'd have to teach it again.  I am very pleased at his memory skills

Ds4 He is smart as a whip. He will pick up where he left off. No real constant review just practicing what we already know(read, read, read).

On another note my ex-husband is really giving hs my ds2 much thought (decision this week ) and I am very happy about that.  Military school is an option as well but I am praying for hsing.

I'm Spoiled

Posted in Family

If I have never said it before...I am in love with my kids.   My DS1 got back from Brown City Family Camp with his best friend Sammy and wanted to take me to the movies, Bourne Ultimatum and McDonalds for dinner. That wasn't the best part, he wanted to tell me that he want's to tell everyone that they don't have to go to hell (If HE HAD A CURE FOR CANCER HE'D TELL IT SO TELL PEOPLE THEY DON'T HAVE TO GO TO HELL) and he wants to start with his friends. I am thankful for the work God continues to do in his life. We had such a great time.

Blessings

Okay, my sons are lovin' having a snake.  Of course they keep it at their dads but when they come to visit they always, always brings it with them. I thought I was more afraid of snakes than I ended up being. So can u guess what's our first unit study.....you guess it,  Snakes ,the boys are so excited their big brothers are teching them and "doing school" together.

I haven't figured out what is all involved in the unit study but I am getting it together now.

Not ready!

Posted in School

NEXT WEEK we start back to all day school, I'm not ready my printers out of ink,I haven't read the teachers manual for math yet.  What's the problem you might ask????  I'm so confused.

I want to profile my boys so they will see their progress over time and they will know they have accomplished what they have put to memory and practice...one problem ....my printer, what is up with that.

The stress.   I think I will destress tomarrow and not think to hard about what I don't have and work with what I do. That is my plan.

I also have to write my own IEP for DS3 for school next year, I hope I know what I am doing.

Pray , Pray, Pray

That is the only thing I know to do.

Ventings over.

Blessings to all,

Lorri

We R At War

I read an ARTICLE today that stirred my spirit. I am part of a homeschooling family. I love the fact that I can have this privilge to do so but I never thought that it meant to not be a part of my community. Everything that happens here happens to us as well even the down fall of the public school system.

Today I will take an active part in my community through the library ,the community centers, the churches, the food bank. somehow we will make a difference or people will die and miss out on Gods promise of eternity. It is up to me to do my part.

My children and I will have a day of specific prayer for our public school and everything that is taught in them and the influences around them. I hope you do the same for yours.

It is no ones fault by ours(christians)that our country is what it is.Homosexuality has been around before Christ so it is going to be an ongoing battle.....WE ARE AT WAR did we forget?
2ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

We can stand in the gap
Eze 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.

Time and again He has called us to seek and pray.

So whatcha gonna do?

Just Thinking

Posted in Family

Well it's Monday again it's not my favorite day of the week.

Anyways, I am trying to get ready for my sons graduation party, I feel overwhelmed. I am not a party planner at all.  I would be best planning someone else's party than my own. (Money is a factor.)

We are grilling and sides with a cake. My sister is a big "what to do" person she makes me feel like I'm not doing enough or doing the right thing. I get a little under pressure making sure I don't do things to please people and do what is best for my son and our family.

DS will have a good time b/c food is involved and he likes to eat and of course I have to make ugly salad, that is his favorite.

I am making a to do list so that I can get it all done....Pray for me.

Have you ever had someone call and tell you there is a sale going on and you need to get there? Well at 9:30 this morning my friend calls and says just that. How is it that when you seriously need some new books you can’t get where you want to be? What’s up with that?

Thank God there is Used Books online. Edaccents www.edaccents.com I like to check her listings out before I ever shop.

Thoughts For the Day

Posted in My superheros

I am trying so hard to be positive. I want to move right now (Miss. here I come) but have to wait ,hey at this point I would take a vacation. I desperately need to get to church (no car yet). I need the fellowship and strength from others. Thank God for this Blog Life or I would be so lost and discouraged its amazing how the Lord will use your blogs to help someone out.. You all are great.

We tried to get a high speed internet access but it had too many problems and my husband wasn’t going to mess with it so....back to the dial up. I want to click, click and be done.

My findings today were from:

JOANN... everyone should stop by. Love the bundt and apple pie recipes. I will be trying them myself.

Encouragement from My Patchwork Life . She is always an encouragement.

Tips from TOS that I love and always find useful and helpful and encouraging I love it.

Laughter....Quietcajun is new to my blogging experience and she is wonderful to visit.

I hope everyone had a blessed day and lifted at least on blogger up in prayer today .

Love you all,

Lorri

A Homeschooling Beginning

Posted in School

"I homeschool" she said.

"What exactly is that?" I replied.

That is how this journey all began. I went home and googled homeschooling and Christian Homeschooling and began to read like crazy... that was in 1999.

I homeschooled my now 13 year old for half a school year in 3rd grade then put him back in b/c I really didn't have a clue and my friend wasn't any help .  At the time I felt he wasn't learning what he should be(he already had an IEP at this time and no phonetic foundation that was my focus for him) and I didn't want to damage him any further and I didn't have a support group or knew anyone who was hsing, I was literally stuck adn insecure.

Here I am five years later and began hsing my 8 and 6 yr. old this year full time(6 year old only did preschool in public setting).I love it and it's not that I have all the answers, I struggle still with frustration and financial issues but I press on. The main and most important reason I continue is, I prayed for 4 years "Lord are you sure you want me to hs these boys I'm not sure I can ?" and confirmation after confirmation(FREE MATERIAL ) came that this is what the Lord required for his future use. He is with me every step of the way ,good and bad days.

I think now if I had not read (learning styles)so much I would be so under pressure and the more I read and prayed the more confident I became. I want to do what is best for my children and I know that in this world today where kids can be pushed down, bullied, abused and tormented by kids their own age, I know I'm doing the right thing.

I love the fact that as I lean on Him in my insecurity and I search Him for answers and support I am shown websites like this one where I have found such great encouagement, tips, and  great resources by such great woman of God I am truly blessed and that is why my cup continues to run over.

I hope anyone who is new like I am knows, your doing the right thing, just keep looking up and pressin on. I am learning everyday with my children and I love it.

Tempations or ?

Okay I have a dilema. We had no tv for almost 6 years ,regular tv for almost 6mo. now and now I want cable I am tired of fighting with my antenna. I know that tv is a huge distraction for everyone in my home sometimes I think they are all under a spell when the tv is on(my dh included), and the negetive influence is huge.

I don't watch much and I only get chanel 7 which means a lot of homosexual content  in regular programing it seems is on every show or explicit sexuallity.

I like the old shows,sci-fi and movies in the 1800 century this is the reason why I even want tv. Don't get me wrong we are a huge movie watching household.

I have a small home so there isn't enough chores to keep us busy and my 3 older boys are busy.  I have no vehical right now and sometimes I am just bored so I surf the net and watch tv and  I go through spell of reading.

Help me. If you hadn't had tv for a long period of time and when you turned it on even just the basics  and there was so much neg influence what would you do?

I'm so so so confused...I think I'll just start praying about this.

Blessed/Plants

I am blessed beyond measure. As I have joined HSB I have gotten so many good  ideas from you moms out there that I have seen a change in my boys(mainly on the topic of school in the summer). There attitudes on getting the work done so we can play has changed for the better. My oldest son has a friend who told me  when she was in school as she mastered different things in class her teacher would keep a star chart ( addition facts, subtraction facts ,sight words and for my kids Alphabet recognition) I was in awe(Thank you ,Jesus), I had never even thought of that so this morning I made a few charts so the boys could see what they have learned since the beginning of the year a what they still were working on and what they will be focusing on. They love the charts full of color and they can pick their own style of stickers to mark off what they have mastered. I love their excitement now

Thank you all so much may each of you be blessed.

Now on another note my birthday was yesterday and my oldest boy and his friend(I pray my future daughter-in-law)bought me a beautiful Trailing Snapdragon hanging basket .  I just love it ,however, I am not the best with plants. When it says to fertilize the plant every 2 weeks what do I use? and is it simple to do?
