I just finished reading...

Posted in School
I just finished reading the saddest book ever written. A Tale of Two Cities. I can't say why it is the saddest book ever written, because that would ruin the book for y'all. But my poor Syd! Poor widdle Sydney Carton.

History/ Geography... Tapestry of Grace

Latin... Latin in the Christian Trivium

German... I don't know what my book is called.

Literature... The Diary of a Napoleonic Foot Soldier

Writing/Grammar... Sentence Composing for Middle School

Vocabulary... Picking random words and putting them on flash cards, y'all should try it, really

English... The Stewart English Program

Other... 1. Violin

2. I will be picking up mandolin

3. We might do choir

4. And we and the Harts are looking into Clogging!

I'm busy. But I'm the one who chose to do Latin, German, and I've been doing Violin for 5 years, and I chose to get a mandolin and do choir and clogging... so don't think Momsie forced all this on me! And even if she did I wouldn't mind, because I like to stay busy!

I finished Latin for the year. Here's a Fundamentum Latinae Fabulae, or the beginning of a Latin faerie-story (aren't British spellings awesome?) for y'all to enjoy or be confused about. Before you scroll down, try to guess what the story is.

Tres Purcelli

Olim anus porca tres filios misit qui suam fortunam invenirent.

    Scroll down

Flora MacDonald's Song

Posted in School
Awhile ago, we were reading about Bonnie Prince Charlie, and I looked back over the chapter and read this. It's after Flora MacDonald watches Prince Charles leave and escape to France.

Flora MacDonald’s Song

“Far over yon hills of the heather so green,

And down by the corrie that sings to the sea,

The bonnie young Flora sat sighing her lane,

The dew on her plaid and the tear in her e’e.

She looked at a boat which the breezes had swung,

Away on the wave like a bird on the main;

And aye as it lessened, she sighed and she sang,

Farewell to the lad I shall ne’er see again;

Farewell to my hero, the gallant and young,

Farewell to the lad I shall ne’er see again.

The target is torn from the arm of the just

The helmet is cleft on the brow of the brave,

The claymore for ever in darkness must rust,

But red is the sword of the stranger and slave;

The hoof of the horse and the foot of the proud

Have trod o’er the plumes in the bonnet of blue.

Why slept the red bolt in the heart of the cloud

When tyranny revell’d in blood of the true?

Farewell, my young hero, the gallant and good!

The crown of thy fathers is torn from thy brow.”

"The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky" Yee-haw?

Posted in School

I had to read the short story "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky" by Stephen Crane for literature. So now that I've finished it, I have a question about it. What's the point? It doesn't make a point or have a moral, does it? It wasn't even a satisfying (sp?) read either. This is a summary of it that I wrote:

Once upon a time, the marshal of Yellow Sky got married and no one knew he was getting married. They were on a train back to Yellow Sky, but there in the town, Scratchy Wilson was drunk. So all the men went and hid in the bar. Scratchy wanted to have a fight with someone. Now Jack (that was the marshal's name) was back in the town with his wife. He took her to his house, but he found Scratchy there. He tried to shoot him, but then he saw Jack was married so he didn't shoot him. The end.

Weird, huh? Bye for now!

Augh!!! When Latin attacks!!!

Posted in School

Help! I'm being attacked by Latina Christiana II!!!!!! What's the deal with these genders? I don't see why a table has to be feminine, a slave has to be masculine, and a rampart has to be neuter! Why can't all of them be neuter? And why are there two declensions within the second declension? Why are some of the case endings the same? AAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!

I'm done screaming now. Here's a tag from Narnialover95:

What does your first name mean?(Hailey) A field of hay

What do you wish your name was? Jo

Do you go by a different name than your real name? Nope!

Does your name have different variations of spelling? Haylee, Haley, Hailee, Haylee, Halee, Hayley, shall I go on?

Do you like your name? Yes

Name one of your favorite names: (girl) Anya (boy) Paul

What's the names of the people you tag? Nachoaveragegirl, AgentS, MissMaddy

The Pinyon Tree

Posted in School

Hello, again! I had to write a story for school based on the painting Boys Climbing a Tree by Francisco de Goya y Lucientes. Here is what the painting looks like:

    Now here is the story:

The Pinyon Tree

"Let's go pick the pinyon nuts!" exclaimed three brothers, as they dashed out the door. They had just finished eating lunch and were outside in the Arizona heat, clad in summery clothes.

Carson, Peter, and Anthony chimed in with happy hoorays as they raced to the towering pinyon tree. "How are we ever going to climb this great big tree? There's only one branch big enough to climb, and it's too high up to reach, " Peter whined.

Anthony answered, "I know; Carson, get down on your hands and knees."

He immediately obeyed his big brother by doing so.

"Now, Peter, you'll have to stand on his back, since you're the smallet, and if I did I'd crush him. Go ahead, get on."

"Okay," Peter responded. He threw his hat on the ground as he stepped barefoot onto his brother's back. "Now what do I do?"

"I'll help you up onto that branch." With a grunt, he pushed Peter up. "Got a good grip?"

"Uh-huh. How about I knock the down the nuts and Carson catches them in my hat?"

Carson got off his knees and said, "Good idea." He eagerly snatched the black felt hat off the ground.

Soon enough, the whole hat was full of pinyon nuts, and the boys showed them to their mother and explained how they worked together to get them.

She said with a smile, "Excellent work, boys! How about I make you some pinyon nut cookies?"

Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and dislike about it?

An Owl Song

Posted in School

I had to write a poem for school using the poem "A Sea Song" as a guide. I think it is a very bad poem, but I will post it anyway.

An Owl Song

A gentle breezes, a starry night,

An owl that flies so free,

And breaks the calm and still evening

And loops the hollow tree;

And loops the hollow tree, my friend

While like the crier loud,

The horned owl hoots and hoos,

Black shadow on the cloud.

Tell me how you like it. Leave a comment!
