Help for my difficult times
Ok. We didn't put him in public school. We talked about it and told him he had to do better to be able to stay home (which is where he wants to be). Thank you for your help and comments. I have been praying, and I am having a rough year in general. He is doing a tiny amount better this week. I have tried everything with him. Every day I try to just not give up. The No Greater Joy ministries is good for most kids. but it just doesn't work well with him. We used it many years, and he did not change. Even when he was 3, 4, 5 and he did not do any better. I still use many methods, and prayer. So, he is 8 now, but maybe this year he will change and mature alittle? I hope. I can't type many posts like I would want to, because my hands and wrist start to ache. But I love the blog forum and also love the input from other moms. I will try to update when I see some progress.

My computer is acting weird so I'm going to shut down, but first wanted to mention the book Shepherding a Child's Heart by Ted Tripp.
The book you mentioned was always a little rough for me. It seemed it left out alot of the understanding or heart matters of things..
Praying for you this day!

Just wanted to stop by and say hi. I am a Floridian homeschool mom too. I will be praying for you and the trials you are facing. Are you a member of a co-op? I have been able to find lots of support at ours. Lord bless <>< Antoinette

We had the same conversation with Nathan this year. It has been a struggle for him with reading and it seems to be effecting his other areas. I think he will do better this year. I try not to compare him to his brother anymore, that has helped. He is his own man, but it makes homeschooling him difficult some days.....I feel you on that one. Keep your chin up, I know first hand that it is so hard to do it morning after morning.

Hang in there and keep praying.
Look for little things that help him do better.
My 8 yr old can be very difficult to homeschool, too.
I've been tempted to put him in ps before.
I can't give you advice because each child is different as is each family. Keep praying and listen for that still small voice to give you ideas minute by minute.

I have found the book "How They Learn" by Cynthia Tobias Ulrich to be very helpful in understanding my difficult child. In the book, Cynthia explains different learning styles, and this helped me realize that my daughter's learning style is exactly opposite of mine and it was causing a lot of friction!
As long as you have your husband's support, home schooling will be what is best in the long run. I know it is very hard and when we look back at our past failures we can become overwhelmed by discouragement. We should always look forward to the future with hope because God has plans for each one of our families. Jer. 29:11
God bless you and your family,
Jen
