Wanna know what happened at our house today? Here's a peek into life in Florida. (Don't forget to pause the player to the right.)
Clip # 1...
Clip #2...taken a few hours later...
...And that was the excitement at our house. I think it pretty much summed it up when I said, "It's a great day...to stay inside." (Clip #2) I was dripping when I came back inside....even though I never stepped out from under our porch roof. Soaked in less than 5 minutes.
To give you a little perspective, we get 50+ mph wind gusts during a strong afternoon thunderstorm here in FL. The name makes it sound "scary" even though the winds could be as little as 39 mph or as much as 73 mph...a HUGE variation. 73 mph winds WOULD be a little scarier, but 39 mph is definitely not...although I highly suggest NOT flying a kite during it no matter what the wind speed is. Don't ask, just trust the guy in S. Florida. :-/ If I had to guess, the wind speed in the video clips was probably around 40-45 mph. 39 mph winds are really very similar to what we could possibly get any given summer day. The big difference is that it lasts longer, the amount of rainfall is greater and the widespread potential for tornadoes goes way up...oh, and the fact that the school shut down for "tropical storm" days...rather than "snow days." I always thought that was so weird. When I lived up north, with this kind of rain and wind, we'd be in school....on the boys' bathroom floor with our heads between our knees ...tornado drill position. I'm so glad my kids don't go to school.
OK, you can keep the tornadoes, but we could use a little of that rain. We are in a severe drought. Tell Fay she's been there long enough and now its time to head North. :-)
We're trying to get her up your way...really...she's just not moving very fast. :-) Apparently, she's not taking the hint that she's worn out her welcome. :-)
We made it through fine, but we know a few people who either had flooding or some sort of water damage in their home. I'm glad our home sits on a high spot. :-)
Welcome to my blog...Why "gidget"? Well...my husband tried to teach me how to surf before we were married. I was lousy at it, but he called me his "gidget" and the name stuck.
Why "Treasure Trove"? I love sharing about my sweet little "treasures"...and God has blessed me beyond measure....and no, I didn't mean that to rhyme.
