Homeschooling comes in all different shapes and sizes. Even families that use the same curriculum will not do things the exact same way. That being said - I thought I would give you a glimspe inside a "normal" day at GracePointe aka - the Kitchen Table!
We use a lot of notebooking. "Notebooking?" you may ask. Yes - Notebooking. Think of it as scrapbooking for kids. Notebooking is used as a means of evaluation. It (notebooking) asks the kids to draw and write about what they have learned. They have to pull together everything we have read and discussed and put something on paper. It is really neat to see what the kids come up with.
We are finishing up a three week study on the Vikings. We have read a book about Eric the Red and Leif the Lucky, their lifestyles, and where they traveled. It has been amazing. Today we worked on our timelines and a notebook page.
Without further delay here are some highlights from todays schooling - - and yes we do school on Saturday mornings so we can enjoy Monday off with Dad:)
Hannah is showing off her timeline. We were reviewing what we studied about Mohammed, the beginnings of the Islamic Empire, and the Vikings. Alexander showing off his timeline. Same time period - - 630 AD - 1000AD. Alexander and Hannah conferring on how to best draw Viking Armor. They are using a book we use as a "textbook" to guide their pictures. Hannah's final product. She drew a Viking raider and went on to narrate what they were like on the right. I did the writing as sometimes it is hard to think and write. Ya know like chewing gum and walking! This is Alexander's final product. His picture is about a Viking raider attacking a castle. The item on top of the Viking is a rock coming out of a catapult.
To find out more about notebooking and what it can include, you can visit my friend's website. She has been a wonderful source of information and encouragement to me. The design on the pages the kids used today were designed by her. Her website is www.notebookingpages.com
