• Dec. 4, 2006 - The Bed is Finished!!!!

Anh Luan has finished the bed and from the photos below you will see how amazing it really is!!!!  A. Luan worked about 25 hours on the bed start to finish.  We still need to add some finishing touches (ie painting it, adding fabric to the doorways/arches and storage areas)  There is even a desk for Alexander to write on.  I am so happy with the results.  Hope you all like it!!!

Anh Luan had to assemble the bed in the bedroom as there is no way it was going to go through the door!  LOL:)

Here A. Luan is working on the top section of the "castle"   On the bottom piece of the board you can see where he drew out the arches for the doorways.  We had sawdust everywhere in the garage!

I took this picture after we had carried these two finished pieces into the bedroom to see how they looked.  The half circles are the ladders to reach the beds.  The bottom bunk is 38 inches from the top of the matress to the floor.

This is the almost finished project.  As you can see we lined under the "dungeon" with black fabric to block out as much light as possible.  A. Luan hung a light under there for Alexander to be able to see.  On the side with the lower bunk we lined the step with blue felt as a peekaboo kind of area.  The area by the window will have a desk eventually.  A. Luan is actually working on it right now.  It will be on a system where we can move the desk up as Alexander grows.

The big square on the right is a large toy storage area.  Behind it (as it only about 15 inches deep) is a secret passage out from under the bed.  So Alexander can go out or in two different directions - which as a 6 yo he thinks is really cool!
