The Importance of Work
Q. Why is it important for boys to work hard? Can’t I just be a kid and play all day?
A. [Jake – age 4 ½]When I grow up I’m going to work as a man. I need to learn how to paint, build and do devotions before I grow up. When I help Daddy work hard, I will learn from him.
[Trey – age 7] You need to be a real man when you grow up! In Genesis 3, God punished Adam and told him he would have to work HARD making houses and making money for his family. Once you’re a man you shouldn’t want to be lazy, but you should want to work. If you are watching TV or playing all day, you will not learn to do things a man should do when he grows up and has a family!
[Ethan – age 8] John 4:34 says, “’My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish his work.’” Jesus worked for God. He did what God sent Him to do. He died on the cross for us and preached about His Father God. If we didn’t finish our work, we wouldn’t be obeying God. We should do as we are told, working hard, so that we can finish our work.
Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Our Dad plants the seeds of work in us and if we don’t get tired and give up, we will grow up and know how to work hard and earn money for our families. It is important to work hard now, so that we know how to work hard as adults.
