At the Well - Helping Siblings Serve Together

Posted in Family Ministry

Is it a coincidence that the first four disciples Jesus called to follow Him were two sets of brothers? Based on God’s intentionality throughout Scripture, that’s highly unlikely.

It wasn’t an accidental choice to pick fishermen, and it wasn’t an accident they were brothers. Yes, Jesus knew just what He was doing when He called the sibling sets of Simon-Peter and Andrew, then James and John to join Him in His mission to teach the good news of the kingdom of God.

The New Testament tells of how these brothers, plus a small group of others, changed their world for the cause of Christ. What an amazing picture of siblings serving side-by-side: powerful, effective and loving. Perhaps there was an extra dose of confidence knowing a brother was there to protect your back. Maybe Jesus wanted to show others that joining God’s family meant you could have hundreds of brothers and sisters just as wonderful as Peter and Andrew, or James and John.

Today it’s rare to see siblings serving alongside each other, either in church or in a ministry outside of church. Parents often focus on allowing each child to explore his or her individual gifts and talents through service – which is a good thing. Then as brothers and sisters grow up, their lives take them away from each other. But what might happen if we initiated opportunities for our children to serve together? What if we served God with our own brothers or sisters at our sides?

The Rest HERE...

Exciting Announcement! Setting Examples In Their Youth - The Metzger Children Join the Family Blog

Posted in Family Ministry
We are so happy to announce that God's Plan for Families will be featuring articles from FIVE of our EIGHT children in the very near future! We will be adding three new categories, under the title ~ Setting Examples in Their Youth, which is taken from 1 Timothy 4:12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, and in purity."

High Expectations - Pursuits of a Godly Teen
Annalise is 16 years old and is a beautiful young woman of God! Unlike many of today's teenagers, she doesn't seek to rebel against the authority placed over her by God, but seeks to work alongside those in authority, doing what the Lord would have her to do as a teenager and young adult. She seeks to fulfill, and truly does fulfill, the high expectations set by God, by herself, and by us, her parents. She longs to minister to other teens, showing them how to resist the world's entrapment of rebellion and self-centeredness and how to live a life "worthy of the calling" they have received! We look forward to hearing from Annalise on how teens can live life for God, setting high expectations for themselves using Scripture as a guide!

Blossoming in Grace - The Metzger Girls
Kaitlyn is 9 years old and is a budding young writer who wants to share her thoughts on what God has shown her through Scripture. She also likes to write on what it's like being part of a large homeschooling family. She, like Annalise, is maturing in grace. Both of the oldest Metzger girls  - Annalise and Kaitlyn - are looking forward to contributing to the "Blossoming in Grace" section, which will address topics such as, training to be a homemaker, homeschooling, learning to help teach younger siblings, cooking, cleaning, hospitality, babysitting, gardening, modesty, getting along in a large family, Scripture memory and how to embrace your noble calling from God!

Groundwork for Manhood - The Metzger Boys
Ethan, 8, Trey, 7, and Jake, 4 1/2, are going to be contributing to the "Groundwork for Manhood" section. Topics will include: embracing responsibility, learning to enjoy working hard, preparing to provide for a family, homeschooling, being best friends with your siblings, fishing, camping, chores, training to lead family devotions, being a leader, training for leadership, and enjoying who God created you to be - a MAN of God!

If you or any of your children or teens have any issues or questions they would like to see addressed or answered, please e-mail Lisa with your questions, suggestions or comments. We'd love to see God's Plan for Families grow to be a ministry to the entire family, including children and teens! We are always open to thoughts, suggestions and questions on how to make this useful to your family.

Charlotte Pregnancy Resource Center Walk for Life

Saturday April 25, 2009 9:00 AM US National Whitewater Center

Our annual Walk for Life is a spring event benefiting the Pregnancy Resource Center of Charlotte. This walk gives everyone a chance to learn about the ministry. It also gives everyone who cares about the unborn children and their mothers the opportunity to help in a practical way.

Rest assured, PRC does not engage in political or social activism. Our Walk For Life event is a family-oriented event for those who welcome a peaceful outlet to show their concern for the unborn babies and their moms. It is simply a walk to raise the community awareness of our services and to raise funds to continue FREE services to those in need.

You can register online HERE !

It's only about 2 miles so all ages can participate. You will be asking your family and friends to sponsor you with a single, generous, tax-deductible gift for your participation in the 2 mile event, instead of being sponsored on a per mile basis.

Walk for Life - The Metzger Family Needs Your Support!

Posted in Family Ministry

"Let your compassion come to me that I may live."

Psalm 119:77

This spring, April 25th 2009, all 8 Metzger children - Annalise, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Trey, Jake, Julia, Ellie, and Judah - and their parents, Mark and Lisa, are taking on a new family ministry by participating in an important event in our community. The Pregnancy Resource Center is having a city-wide Walk for Life. We are asking our neighbors, friends and family to sponsor us. Will you be willing to be one of our sponsors, as we seek to raise money for The Pregnancy Resource Center, so that they may continue to provide loving options for both mothers and pre-born babies?

If you would like to participate with us by being one of our sponsors, we would really appreciate it, and the pre-born babies would be eternally grateful, as well! Sponsorship is for the event, not per mile, and gifts of any amount are tax-deductible. Our goal, in our family ministry, is to raise $20 per person in our family - a total of $200! Of course, the more we raise, the better! :)

The Center we will be representing is a non-profit Christian ministry, which served over 3,000 clients in 2008. Many of these clients are teens and women who are faced with difficult circumstances in their pregnancy and need the emotional support and practical assistance offered for FREE at the Center. The Pregnancy Resource Center is a confidential, Christ-centered ministry that empowers individuals to make life-affirming choices in today's world. Your sponsorship will enable them to continue their efforts in impacting the Greater Charlotte area by providing these various services.

Every Walk Dollar Helps:

  • Teens hear the challenge of abstinence with one-on-one peer counseling.
  • Pregnant women hear the truth about their options, while we pray that they will choose life for their pre-born child within them!
  • Provide limited ultrasound, which helps women see the life that is within them, so that they can make a more informed decision.
  • Young moms-to-be to prepare for birth and parenting challenges.
  • Needy families can earn vouchers for baby items by attending HOPE classes.
  • Struggling women find emotional and spiritual recovery after an abortion in the PATH support program and/or through individual counseling.
  • Clients learn and hear about the love and forgiveness of Jesus!
Our goal is to raise $200 (or more!) to help save babies and help mothers!

If you want to sponsor us in this LIFE-saving and LIFE-changing event, please fill out the section below by printing it out and mailing it back to us by April 15th (tax day!). To donate to this worthy cause, please make all checks payable to The Pregnancy Resource Center and send it to the address below.

The Metzger Family

Matthews, NC 28104

Another way you can help is to check with The Pregnancy Resource Center in your area to see how you can participate in your local Walk For Life!

We pray that this will be able to help many mothers and save many precious lives for years to come! Thank you for your support of LIFE - born and pre-born!

Many Blessings To You,
Mark, Lisa, Annalise, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Trey, Jake, Julia, Ellie & Judah Metzger
