Spend A Night In Gotham...

The BPRD

Recorded in BPRD Diaries

Some of you have been asking what in the WORLD the BPRD is. Well, that stands for the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, a secret government agency that protects the world from supernatural evils. *That's why you've never heard of me!* (It's from the Dark Horse comic Hellboy, although I've never read it - I've just seen the movie.)

I work there as a specialist - designing weapons, planning out strategies, and researching information that the other agents need before going out on a mission. Occasionally I go save the world myself every now and again, but as it worries my mom sick and my dad is protective of me(he works there, too), I usually just fight evil from a computer seat and let other people do the dirty work. Besides, I have more fun on the computer! ^o^

So how did I get involved with these guys, you ask? Well, for one, my dad already worked there before I did For two, there was a little "accident" at an antique shop in Gotham City, where a villain my dad usually fought against was conducting a robbery. She was trying to steal a crystal phial, which allegedly had supernatural power(and obviously it did, because when she dropped it on me during the fight, it broke over my head and drenched me with liquid starlight(hence my powers) - the light of Eärendil, to be precise. Any of you dedicated Lord of the Rings fans know what I'm talking about - you know, the star-glass that Galadriel gave as her gift to Frodo Baggins?)

And I'm sure most of you have been wondering who Ruthie is(she drew the picture herself), as she's appeared on this blog several times. She's my cousin, Ruthie Parker, who also works at the BPRD - but as she's only 13, she has a very different job: watching Johnny and Martin!

I call them the "Tornado Twins," as they often kick up a ruckus in the base. They're twins, if you didn't know. Johnny gets his looks from his dad, and Martin gets his from his mom! They will add a lot of comedy to The Chronicles of Lavender Westmarch as soon as they come in! (Ruthie drew that one, too.)

And who's thier parents, you ask? Well, this is Daddy - Hellboy - whom I call "Big Red." You can probably see why! He's actually a demon that was sent here as an infant during World War II (I won't go into detail on that). Anyway, he loves beating up the bad guys, cats(he's got dozens), and Baby Ruth candy bars, which Ruthie often takes off with *Ruthie: Tee hee!*

And this is his wife, Liz Sherman (at least she is in my version of the story):

Nobody knows much about her - at least I don't - but she does have trouble controlling her pyrokinesis (Ruthie: What? Me: Oh, sorry, techno-babbling again. That means she's got fire powers.) when she gets mad. She and I don't get along very well.

This is Agent Abraham Sapien, or just "Abe" as we call him:

He's another one I don't know much about, but I suppose he's some sort of fish-man, as he can breathe underwater(with gills!), and can sense things with that hand of his! He and I are pretty good friends.

And then there's Jackson Marshall (usually called "Agent Marshall" in my story). He's one of the agents that go out on missions; he and I are aquaintances(not friends - we tease each other too much for THAT!). My dad found him on the streets when he was eleven and took him in, to be his mentor and trainer.

This is my old character(instead of Lavender Westmarch) that my friend padawan16 drew for me last September. Witness is buried underneath layers and layers of false identities, so the BPRD can't figure out who she is...but she keeps helping them anyway, even though they won't let her be an agent. She is "slippery as a snake and three times as clever," which means she can easily get out of a bad situation. Able to blend with the shadows as one of thier own, she is a formidable opponent.

Meet Ann Halier(hal-ee-ay), more popularly known as "Alchemist" for her ability to change the elements into other things. I drew this picture myself.

There's other people that I know at the BPRD - like Agent Johann Krauss and the Anti-Kids, but as there aren't any pictures available for them at the moment, you'll have to wait until I can draw them!

My Story

They say that Gotham City is a place where criminals lurk in every dark alley and shadowy corner. Nighttime is the worst, because it is then that maniacs run amok on the streets. That city is the very incarnation of evil and darkness. Even still, I love the Gotham City nights. Because it is in the blackest night that God's light shines brightest, and besides, isn't God in control of both the day and the night?
