SpellQuizzer review

SpellQuizzer is a software program that allows you to enter your student's spelling words and/ or vocabulary words in an auditory and/ or written manner.  It is not however, restricted to Language Arts.  Science, History, Geography, Bible, and foreign languages are just a few of the subjects that would benefit from this program.
The students are:
1)tested on the word list,
2)corrected on any misspelled words,

3)given the option of repeating the missed words ,
4)asked if they want to repeat the list again.
SpellQuizzer does NOT take the place of a spelling curriculum, but it inhances almost any program you already have in use.
Dan Hite from TedCo Software has developed a way for students to repeatedly practice their spelling and vocabulary words without the fuss sometimes caused by more traditional methods because it is the computer, and not the parents, that is doing the correcting.  He started this project to help his children; now you can help yours.

Spellquizzer is $29.95 for a single computer license and $49.95 for a family license (2-5 PCs).  You can get a price quote for use in homeschool groups, classrooms, and school systems.  These are great prices especially since it is a lifetime licence and can be be used by multiple students at different levels.

The website has step-by-step instructions that even the computer- challenged (yes, that's me) can do.
My 11 year old daughter saw the National Spelling Finals on TV and wanted to join spelling bees.  This software allowed
her to import words from the dictionary, with their definitions, and then later test herself .
Since we are in our summer school mode, we took advantage of the downloadable pre-done sample lists.  SpellQuizzer has the Dolch Sight words, Commonly Misspelled words, sample lists by grade, holiday lists, and many more lists that will keep us busy until we use it to its full potential this fall.
We plan on using SpellQuizzer for history, science, bible, geography, and maybe even their Latin.
Another advantage of using SpellQuizzer- improved typing skills.  When our 6 yr. old started testing on the Dolch Sight words, it took a very long time.  When asked why, she said she was looking for the letters.  A week later, she was able to do it faster because she was getting more used to keyboard set up and not trying to find her letters using alphabetical order.
This program is mostly for the students' benefit due to the software not keeping a record of misspelled words.
Overall, I'd say SpellQuizzer is affordable, versatile, and easy to use.
