Embroidering on Velvet

Recently someone asked me embroider a velvet skirt for a Irish dancing solo dress- it has been a learning experience! You need to hoop the stableizer and spray on an adhesive to attach the velvet to. I've been told that it would help if there was a long basting stitch bordering the design to keep it in place. Also, I need to remember that the design should only be resized +/- 20% for best results. I'll write to let you know how it turns out. Well, we did it. I changed the spray glue to 505 and did a basting grid to stablize the velvet. The design stitched out with minimum puckering and the seamstress made a gorgeous dress to go on a beautiful dancer. |

Introduction

My husband is a computer engineer and I am a Domestic engineer  and we home school 4 children ages 5,7,9,&10. Our time is mostly spent in school,church , at Irish dancing or doing various crafts at home. I'm not real fond of housework, but many more experienced and wiser parents (including those online) have been instrumental in trying to help in balancing everything without me going completely bonkers. There is success -some of the time. |
