Random News Story...Atheists persecuted by Christians?
This is kind of sad.
I'm glad it was a Christian lawyer who came to their defense. We may
have major ideological differences, but that doesn't mean that all
Christians behave in the manner of these school officials. One thing
that kind of bothered me...who doesn't know what an atheist is? It
seemed to be a problem among the jury members.
Just some thoughts:
Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
--Exodus 22:21
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do
good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use
you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father
which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on
the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
--Matthew 5:44-45
I only know what is presented in this article, but I don't think there is scriptural precedent for:
- forcing someone to pray
- lying about them
- a principal punching a parent in his front yard
Even if they are atheists. How do we deal with those we disagree
with? Even those who conceivably (or perceivably) would work to deny
us our religious freedoms? Actually, I think all of Matthew chapter 5
would be a good start.
