Yeah!

Posted in Journal

Yeah!  I'm back!  And my husband is getting all the stuff to fix our computer, so I can continue again when I return home.  This is probably a sad testament on my life, but I actually wrote a couple blog entries while we did not have the internet.  And I'm not talking about my quick note from the library.  I saved them in my documents folder on my computer.  So, when I get home I suppose I will have to post three or four things all at once.

Right now, we are visiting my parents...it is our 10th wedding anniversary tomorrow.

School has been getting along well.  I have enjoyed working on Louis Pasteur and we are almost done with him.  But there is this cool program at the zoo where you bring in your reports, projects and ethically collected items from nature and tell the lady all about them and you earn points.  With these points you can earn items from her collection.  I'm going to photocopy my daughter's notebook on Pasteur and have her bring that along with some samples.  I was thinking maybe a bag of moldy bread, a jar of jelly to demonstrate Pasteurization, a loaf of sour dough bread if our starter gets going and a jar of starter with a balloon on top to show the increasing gas the yeast produces.  Maybe we can pick up a second vaccination schedule from the doctor's office when the baby gets her next batch of shots and add that as a modern day appllication of his early work in immunization.

Exciting, huh?  My daughter wants a peacock feather.  I want a mouse skull.  Oh well.  It's her work, I suppose.  I don't know that she'll earn enough points for a skull anyway.

And in the way of all my other stuff...my daughter finished her little quilt block, and I showed her how to attach the batting, the backing and the bias strip.  I finished my little wall quilt and made several diaper covers.  I skipped the elastic, however.  I've been looking more at the directions and am thinking about trying that next.  I also got a good start on a bath robe for my son which I messed up, but no one will ever know.  He's only two and it is a bath robe after all.  I didn't get anywhere with lesson planning though.  We're kind of coasting at the moment, but soon I will run out of material from the last time I sat down and worked at it.  I'm kind of a binge/purge sort of planner.  I sit down and get together a bunch of stuff and don't do it again until we are tying everything up and I need to get started on what we're doing next.

Oh! Oh! Oh!  One last bit of excitement...I actually won one category of the writing contest homeschoolblogger.com put up.  I am so excited!  I have not even had a chance to look at any of the other entries yet, but will be doing so this weekend.  Here is the link.  Enjoy!

About Me

"Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude."--Alexis de Toqueville
