Why gottsegnet?

People ask me often enough, I thought I'd finally post it for all to know. You know that little children's rhyme, "It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring...?" Well, there is a similar one in German which goes, "Es regnet, Gott segnet..." (It is raining, God blesses...)

So that is where it comes from and that is what it means. But what does it mean to me? Aside from all the giggles of tickling Nina (my two year old host sister from way back when I was an exchange student in Germany) after singing this song?

1) God's blessings pour down like rain. Life-giving water to a parched land.

2) Even in the storms of life, God is there.

So that is it, mystery solved. You can go on to my next entry which really is about something.

Oh, yeah...where did you get your id from? I would like to know...some of them are pretty cute...some of them I know, but you can tell me anyway. Comments are always cool

Mine came from Isaiah 43:18-19. "Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert." My husband and I used these verses for our wedding. What the Lord has done and continues to do in our lives is summed up in these words. Praise Him for His mercy and grace and blessings.

Wow I leave for a week and your whole blog looks different! that is so cute how you got your blog name. Mine comes from my last name and there are seven of us which just so happens to be one of my fav numbers. My brother lived in Germany for a couple years when he studied to become a chef. That is were he met his wife who is from the US but originally from Ireland. Our world seems really small sometimes.

My handle... well, not very creative, I know...just "beth", but it means house, and I like it.
My other blog (first one) my hubby named "the Brew*Crew Adventure" because our life together as a family has been just that, a GREAT adventure!

I'll add mine too (I think these are fun to find out). I got mine from the Spike Lee movie School Daze. I wanted to name it something that referred to our home schooling and that movie title seemed to sum it up (but I think the movie itself is kinda crass so I don't recommend anyone watching it).

You just brought back another childhood memory! I KNEW that your name sounded familiar for some reason or another. My grandmother, German to the core, used to recite this to me when I was little, along with a couple of German prayers and cute little songs. Would you mind posting the whole rhyme on my blog sometime when you have a few minutes?
My name, iluvtheland, is because I am a farmgirl in Ohio, and I live on the land that my ancestors had since it was opened up for settlement. Like all of them, I love the land! This is my dad's side of the family. My mom's is nearly all 100% German, with the exception of one Hungarian branch.
I am enjoying reading your recent education posts!
