Humility

Posted in Journal
Perhaps I should save this for my next edition of Writer's Workshop for it really is a nice little example of descriptive writing.  It was a difficult piece to praise.  To be perfectly honest, the dictator in me wanted to just delete this entry all together.

Instead, I choose to make an example.  There are things I struggle with.  There are many things about myself that I do not like.  The strange thing is, over time, I have learned to recognize how many of my faults are tied with my strengths.  Not that I excuse my faults in that, but it helps me keep perspective in parenting.  My daughter has definite strengths...one of them is a heart for God.  She is bolder than I in talking about Christ.  She is quite the little leader and somehow, most kids she is with follow her lead.

The flip side to that is that she is stubborn and tends to control her more easy-going little brother.

She is also seven.  And she has a unique ability to get herself riled up.  She works herself into a frenzy with hyper giggling and then literally bounces off the walls.  This agitates her brother who will begin acting out and the next thing you know, he is having a temper tantrum, the baby is crying, the dog is barking and mom shouts at her.

That is what this entry is about...

Unfortunately we all have days like that.....(cough) I hope I didn't cough on you-LOL! I knew that me being fat had nothing to do with having 6 children and eating a little too much of their junk food, thanks for pointing that out.

So, where's my gift??????

God Bless,
Amber

PS~ So, how much do you weigh Skinny Dana?

The Lord can and will use your daughter's boldness for His glory. You are right when you say that your faults show up as your strengths. He takes all of those imperfections and uses them as He works through us. We are all troubled by those little things we see in our own flesh. At least your dog begins to bark for a good reason. My dog barks every time the PHONE rings!! Lol
Thank you for adding your wonderful perspective to my church compromise post. It's something I can't get off of my mind or out of my heart as of late. have a happy evening and a terrific day of homeschooling!

I so sympathize with you. I totally lost it this morning when my 6yo woke me -- five times -- within twenty minutes of my alarm going off (not a morning person here). I'm not good at apologizing either!

I never thought about letting her blog too. I guess I'm a little particular about spelling, and assumed she wasn't ready. I'll see if she's interested ...

Thanks.

you know what's funny? A while back, I said something about her being a good speller. Later, I looked at her blog and couldn't help but wonder what people made of that. They must think I have terribly low standards!

I say she is a good speller because she spells phonetically and well enough that I can read what she is writing. We have not practiced spelling nearly enough and her spelling is honestly about what she has figured out from reading. We're honestly like on page two of her spelling words (WRTR). She also does well on the words we practice. She is not a good typist.

Her blog is her little place to write for fun with no correction from mom. I read everything she posts before it goes up...safety reasons...but she never gets any criticism for it.

You must be online right now -- that was a quick answer!

The more I read about your daughter, the more she reminds me of my own! She too is just starting out in spelling -- reads constantly and also does the phonetic and from what she can remember from reading. I just started her on journaling -- I suddenly realized she was afraid to write unless it was spelled correctly (I'm a bit neurotic in that area). So glad God helps them get beyond us!

And I love your humor! Thanks so much!

but I just got into my bloglines account and can therefore check up easily on your posts. This one caught my attention...

My daughter is only 4 and her brother is a year and nine days younger than her, but she's like yours. My husband was just commenting on how bossy she is. Her little brother is also laid-back and easy-going. She's stuck on Jesus dying on the cross right now (loves that story and the pictures in her Bible) so I guess that could be her in the future witnessing to people too. =)
