Walking in Grace, Living in Beauty

Apr. 1, 2009 - Seeing Light in their Eyes

Three of my extra homeschooling students are very new to this way of learning, very new-two weeks into this new adventure.  Today my former PS students were elbow deep into their very first lapbook and I wished you could have seen the excitement of these 11 and 14 year olds.  We are doing a  unit study on the Civil War-they keep waiting for us to do school.  LOL  It is simply inspirational.  And what better place to study the Civil War except in the deep South.   I've been homeschooling so long that I have taken for granted the freedom and fun we have.  Thank you Lord, for reminding me.

Mar. 30, 2009 - I'm Back

Ok..so I am the ones that get "cleaned out" during Spring Cleaning, but that friendly reminder made me realize that this is something I really want to do. So what if nobody reads it initially!  It's a way to journal about my experience as a homeschooling mom/pastor's wife/state ladies leader...the list is too long.

I have taken on the task of homeschooling three extra children this semester.  For some of you, that's not a chore-you do six all the time-but for me, it was daunting at first.  Now, we seem to be moving right along.  We have grades 1-12 in our little school at the table and I am really seeing progress in my newbies.  From the start it has been understood that two will return to PS when this semester is over, but we will see.  One of my students is really liking homeschooling and she is doing well with the 6:1 ratio.

And yes, before you panic, I can legally do that in my state.  I am a certified teacher so that makes me "official" plus I do some work for the county school district, so I doubt very seriously if they will ever question what I'm doing since I'm homeschooling some of their little darlings, as well (and the best part is  they pay me for it!)

My thought for today has been, "Be not weary in well doing, you shall reap if you faint not".  Well, today is Monday and for most pastor's wives, it should be our Saturday, but that is not to be.  I often feel faint with all that I'm doing-I can't keep up with myself sometimes-but I know that these labors of love are "God things" and I know that as a family, we will reap the benefits both here and eternally.
So, I encourage you, my homeschooling friend.  Don't faint...what we do is not in vain.

Jan. 2, 2009 - Here, Once Again!

A year or so ago, I had a blog, but  due to lots of changes in my life, I let it go off into that never, never land of cyberspace.  Well, here I am again in much need of a community of friends and a place to muse about the wonderful world of motherhood and homeschooling.
The title of this new blog is based on a book that I received years ago entitled A Heart Where Beauty Lives.  I recently came across the book while unpacking things that we had not unpacked in the entire 5 years since we left Oklahoma.  It was in OKC that I first began my homeschooling journey.   Since that time, my reading has been primarily focused around homeschooling.  I love studying and researching methods and finding new "stuff".  Yes, I am a curriculum junkie and I just happen to live in the Homeschooling Mecca of North America-yes, that's right...Huntsville/Madison Alabama is the best place in the world to homeschool!  With all that said, though, finding this "old" book opened up a part of me that I did not even realized had been closed...a place of simple beauty.  So here's to, as is penned on the front cover of this cherished book, welcoming grace, kindness and confidence back into my life!
