Kid3's first baseball injury

I just got an email from Mr. Graycrew with a picture attached.  Subject-Kid3’s first baseball injury :)   What? And why the smiley face?  Men!!! He attached a picture and sent it from his cell. I suppose to make me feel better.  Yeah, right.  So I called up the afore mentioned man to get details. To see if my baby is alright. Ok, ok he’s 7. And this sort of thing happens all the time.  But I’m usually nearby.  I know, I know.  Boys WILL BE boys!!!!

Apparently Kid3’s glove clipped the ball and it hit him in the face, shattering his brand new sunglasses.  You know, the ones he just bought with HIS own money! :(  I say yay for those sunglasses.  They protected his eyes!  He ended up with a cut near his eyebrow. So Kid3 took a trip to the training room to get bandaged up.  Looks like butterfly stitches.  He’s alright, now that Dad said we’ll get him some new specs to replace the broken ones.

He’s back on the ball field right now finishing up his last day of camp.  What a trooper!

This past Saturday Kid1 had a belt test for Tae Kwon Do.  Here she is getting ready to do a stomp kick through some wooden boards.  Notice how many there are?  :)

Kid2 wanted me to let you all know that he snapped all these pictures.  Thanks man!

This Past Week

I’m not posting my menu online this week.  We didn’t exactly stick to the menu last week either.  You see, last Thursday the big freezer was discovered left open!  Most of the stuff was still salvagable and we had to eat more chicken than I planned. It was time to defrost the freezer anyway. And yes, we did have mashed potatoes this week!! :)

Kid2’s Little League season is over.  His team finished first for regular season and then came in runner up for the championship game!  Way to go Astros!! (NOT Houston, blech.  We’re Cubs fans!!!!).  Here’s the team with their trophies and medals.  Kid2 is lower left.

img_5618.JPG

This week Kid2 & Kid3 have baseball camp run by our local high school coach.  It’s going great!  The boys are enjoying themselves and it looks like they’re learning a thing or two as well. I’ll post some pictures of camp later this week.

Otherwise, it’s the same old routines around here. School is back in full swing and some chores have been reassigned.  I just finished some online shopping for our two June birthdays.  Now I’ve got to schedule their annual pediatric well-check visit. The whole crew also needs to get in for their 6 month visit to the dentist.  Time to go make appointments!!!!

Our Weekend

Friday was spent at closing ceremonies for Little League.  The whole family went and endured the heat to watch kid2 participate.  Coach got the trophies, but he’ll hand them out at the end of the year party.  Problem is, we still have to wrap up the year! Saturday morning Kid2 had a playoff game.  He scored a run and the team won the game.  Championship game is Monday night.

Saturday night was church.   Mr Graycrew went with Kids1&2.  Mom stayed home from all of Saturday’s activities.  Little ones were just not feeling 100% yet.  I wasn’t up to par either.  I couldn’t fall asleep last night.  My back was spazzing cuz of pregnancy hormones and I just couldn’t get comfortable. Mr graycrew immediately prayed with me, then offered to get the heating pad but it’s MIA.  Instead he got out the heated massager and massaged all the kinks out of my back. After that, I slept like a baby!  My hubby is so wonderful.  I am blessed!!!!

Today was enjoyable.  We had Biscuits and Gravy for brunch, cleaned up the house, then headed outside to swim the day away.  Got out of the pool and grilled some chicken for supper. It went great with some stuffing and peas. Nummy!

Kids are all in bed now and I’m supposed to be finishing lesson plans for the next 6 weeks.  Tomorrow is our first day back to school after a few weeks off for R&R.  I am looking forward to settling back into our routine.

Time to go rub aloe on my shoulders.  I may look like the German side of my family, but I have Irish skin that burns in the sun!!  OUCH!!

The Camping Trip

Last week we packed up and headed off to Lake Murray after a day or two of planning.  Hubby went and got a load of firewood and I made up many, many lists!  I plan to save those lists because that means less work for me next time.  Maybe I could post them somewhere on the blog.  Anyone interested in my many “gotta have for camping” supply lists??

So anyways, we hooked up the trailer, loaded it, and were off. It took us an additional hour after arriving to find a great campsite.  Most were already taken due to the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.  People were putting up a tent and paying for a spot that they weren’t going to use till the weekend, when we were planning on leaving.  Ugghhh!!!

We got camp set up, cooked some alot of marinated chicken on the open fire, had our smores, saw some coons and called it a night.  The next morning we woke up to distant thunder. Mr. Graycrew checked the radar on his cell.  Just a small storm, no problem.  Time to see if the weather-proofing holds up. It did, thankfully, and kids were up and riding their bikes while mom got some breakfast going.

The big kids and Dad hiked through the woods and found a trail to the lake. They also found a nice sized turtle(2 actually) and brought it back to camp to show mama.  Kid3 loves turtles and wanted to keep it. Lucky for us, park rules  won’t allow the taking of their critters!  We also found out from the park hosts that there’s an older beach close to our site.  We didn’t swim there, we went to another one by the marina so we could pick up our fishing licence too.  Everyone loved the water.  The lake is so beautiful and so clear.  Kid5 looked adorable in her glasses and floating suit!

Dad and Kids1-4 went fishing while kid5 napped and mom cleaned up camp.Everyone had fun with Dad.  Kid1 hates putting worms on the hook, but thankfully she had her Daddy and 3 brothers to help her out.  You should hear kid4 talk about the fish he caught.  He tells them stories like a true fisherman, just like his Greatpa!

What else did we do?  Dad and kid2 played catch.  Kid2 has a playoff game tomorrow.  His team came in first for the season so he just had to practice, ya know! There was also some major water gun fights.  Dad and the super soaker vs all the kids and their guns.  What a great way to stay cool in 90+degree weather.

The raccons.  They came out every night, just after the kids went to bed.  No waiting for the fire to go out or the adults to hit the sack.  They weren’t even afraid of our dog, who was more than happy to chase them down.  Dog and Dad had some bonding times at night, both being the protectors of our home!

I cannot forget to tell you about the ticks! I pulled out over 15 total from everyone except kid1 and myself.  Kid2 holds the record at 7.  Oh yeah, and the boys learned the dangers of peeing in the woods! Heeheehee  That’ll teach ‘em for laughing at poor pregnant mom and her many treks to the toilet! Who ended up with the ticks? :)

All in all, we had a great time. We packed up early due to the threat of severe storms in the area.  I hope you all enjoy some of the pictures from our trip!

I'm Baaa-aaaack!!!

Ok, ok…the truancy officers have caught up with me.  They want to know why I haven’t updated y’all in the last month.  Same old excuse I’m afraid.  We’ve been busy enjoying our life, so busy that I haven’t made much time for the computer.

We  had a birthday boy while I was hiding from cyber world.  Kid 2 turned 10, double digits ya know! Daddy and I are so proud of him and so very thankful to the Lord for sparing his life when he was a wee babe.  Have I shared that wonderful story with you all yet?  No?  Soon then, as soon as I get caught up with current events.  We love you kid2!!!!!! :)

noah-025.jpg

img_5258.JPG

What else has been going on?  I went to the doc this week.  Baby6 is growing great.  I still haven’t gained any weight and I’m already at 16 weeks! Yeehaw! Next month is ultrasound time.

Kids 4&5 got sick earlier this week.  Kid4 had me a tad bit worried with his fever, rapid pulse and breathing.  All is well now, praise to God!!  He is still in the healing business ya know, big AND small.  Really.

We went to the outdoor movies Sunday night with some neighbors.  It was a double header so we saw both Indiana Jones and Iron Man.  Not bad for $18 for the whole graycrew.  We packed the cooler, grabbed some snacks, blankets, pillows, chairs, and the dog and had ourselves a party.  I topped it off with a couple Whataburger breakfast taquitos on the way home.  It was after 2am ya know, so I just HAD to eat some breakfast! :)

Oh yeah, we went camping for the first time in years!  It was awesome despite the storms, ticks, and coons.  I’ll save that story for later.  This post is long enough, dontcha think?

It’s great to see all the new people checking out the blog!  Feel free to leave a comment. Or you can just email and harrass me like the rest of ya!     :)                      ~Toodles for now!

Monday, Monday

I snuck out this morning to get some grocery and birthday shopping done.  I also treated myself to a much needed haircut.

img_5196.JPG

This was taken after running lots of errands.  Whew…am I exhausted.  No makeup on either, which is normal for me.  I hammered out some lessons, fed the kids lunch, and took off for Sams.  I ended up buying a really pretty vase while I was there.  It looks nice in our office, dontcha think?

img_5199.JPG

I’m planning on putting bamboo or something similar in it.  Right now dh put our giant umbrella in there.  After Sams, I headed over to my OB’s office.  Lost some weight, all the labs are great, heard baby’s heartbeat again :)  The ultrasound is scheduled for end of June.

I came home to find that Kid2 is now on a little league team.  He had no interest in playing at the beginning of the season, but had a change of heart recently.  He’ll be on the same team as one of his friends and will enjoy the last 5 or so games of the season.  I’m glad his Dad is home alot lately.  He will be running kid2 to all his practices, not me!

I decided to go and check my email and relax for a bit only to hear Kid1 yelling for Dad.  Apparently Kid5 got herself stuck in her baby doll’s high chair.  This has happened before, about 8 years earlier.  Only it was a much chunkier Kid2 and I was in a panic while dh ran to get his tools.  Not this time.  Hubby grabbed his screwdriver and headed upstairs.  I grabbed the camera and snapped this:

img_5194.JPG

Dinner was leftovers tonight.  Your choice of spaghetti or goulash.  Children are now getting ready for TKD.  Kid4 is going along too.  I will only have kid5 home tonight!  Wow, the quiet will drive me bananas! Seriously.  Gotta go and make sure everyone’s all dressed, bags are packed, and cooler’s filled.

Field Day 2008

Today was the end of year party for PE class.  Everyone had a blast.  The kids all got soaked, and that was BEFORE the water balloon fights! I’m glad to be finished for the summer and am looking forward to a fun filled fall.

Here’s Kid1 ready to race

I am exhausted.  We’re taking it easy this weekend.  We have 2 of the boys off to a birthday party and then church on Saturday night. I have an appt on Monday and then have some shopping to do for kid2’s 10th birthday.  Sunday is looking to be a quiet, peaceful day!

This and That

Last Wednesday was an unusual day, yet to repeat itself.  I’m not complaining.  My blahs=healthy baby! We had some storms Thursday night that sent dh and children rushing home from TKD just in the nick of time.  Our Friday activities were postponed a week because of the rain.

Sunday was our annual church picnic.  The children had a blast playing with their friends all day.  Literally. We were there from 10:30ish till after 5pm.  We ended up taking 2 cars because we had extra neighborhood kids with us.  Hmmm, maybe we should seriously think about getting a 15 pass. van?  Mr. Graycrew, kid1 and kid2 made it on stage during a clown act.  They were hilarious!  Of course I forgot the camera.  A friend snapped some pictures though.  I’ll post them later.

Downstairs carpets got shampooed Saturday.  Hopefully it’ll be the last time.  Our carpets badly need replacing!  Gotta finish painting the front and back foyers first, dontcha know.

The dog got a much needed bath.  Her ears also got cleaned and nails trimmed. I figured I’d better get it done.  I didn’t want my smelly dog stinking up those freshly cleaned carpets.

School is coming along nicely.  We are staying on schedule despite all-day sickness! Time to sign off now.  DH will be home soon with Little Caesers.  Can you believe that cheap frozen pizza is $4 now?  I’ll gladly buy a couple of Caesars’ pizza for only $5.  I know, I know.   It’s still cheaper to make it.  Tell that to my stomach though!

Wow what a Wednesday!

Ok, technically it’s Thursday, but I haven’t hit the sack yet!  Today was a good day for me.  No puking, not much fatigue.  I took advantage of this and actually managed to accomplish quite a bit.  Here’s a list of what got done.  The list is more for me than you all.  I am so proud of myself.  Who knows what I’ll be doing tomorrow.  It may be back to the barf bucket for me! :)

  • I cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner and actually ate some of it!  Except for the eggs.  I have a big time aversion to them right now
  • Edumacated 4 of the kiddos
  • Decluttered dh’s pool table (what a mess)
  • decluttered our big school table (an even bigger mess)
  • cleaned out under downstairs bathroom sink and containerized everything
  • shampooed some of our living room furniture
  • Washed, dried, folded, and put away 6 loads of laundry
  • Tended to the garden.  We have a few pepper plants flowering.
  • Loved on each of my babies
  • started planning out kid2’s upcoming writing curriculum. Discussed field trip to Star-Telegram with dh.
  • prepped Kid1’s science lab for tomorrow
  • hosted a whole slew of neighborhood kids
  • watched dh throw the football with his boys.  I love that man!
  • humiliated dh in MarioKart.  Yes, we are competitive!
  • I blogged

Actually the very best thing that happened was very early Wed morning as I was getting ready for bed.  Dh bought me a doppler back when we found out I was expecting kid5.  We had just previously been thru a couple rough miscarriages and he surprised me so that I could listen to our baby’s heartbeat whenever I wanted.  I told you he was Mr. Wonderful, now didn’t I?  So anyways I pull out above mentioned doppler and found our new one’s heartbeat.  I yelled for dh and of course he found it again only much stronger this time.   Yippee, the first time we heard it!  Such JOY.
