Apr. 26, 2009 - Our Hike-the adventure
Oh my gosh!, if it could go wrong it did. My dh is taking a final this weekend so the kids and I have been trying to do things out so that he could concentrate. Well, today I thought we could go on another hike...I use to hike all the time and loved it. Back then..I didn't have kids. Only me. Okay. So we start out and everything is going well. We had our back pack with the essentials and boy I am glad that I learned to do that.
First part of the hike is fine. We are on a loop which the half way point is a great lookout point, we make that then we start to finish the loop and 3/4 of the way there are about 20 trees that have fallen and are blocking the path. So we turn around and start to head back when my ds wanted to take a different direction (also a path). Okay, fine. Then a little way down it was blocked. And at one point the path was so steep we had to climb it on our hands and knees.
So, I see the top of the hill and both paths are blocked now...I look at the top of the hill and say follow me. I am making noise, praying that the kids don't step on a snake and moving fast.
We get back to the look out point and start heading on the path that isn't blocked then a lizard jumps on my ds with autism (who thought it was funny). Well, it really wasn't funny. But, we survived....here are a few pictures. Enjoy.

Apr. 26, 2009 - Saturday was full
Saturday, there were so many options and fun things to do it was hard to choose. We wanted to spend time with mom & dad (grandparents)...daddy had a birthday yesterday and we wanted to see him. Then it was on to a youth rally at which my 2 oldest nephews participated, then to my great nephew's graduation from kindergarten.
Here are some pictures. Graduation was cool this year. I knew 7 or 8 of the kids graduating...that was really neat.

Apr. 25, 2009 - Luke 14 dinner
Our church hosted a Luke 14 dinner and it is based on Luke 14:21 & 23. I appreciate them so very much, they work so hard to pull this off. They had snakes, a peacock, horse, mules, pigs, a parrot, rabbits, goats, sheep. It was awesome how much work they put in to this every year. Here are some pictures of this event.

Apr. 24, 2009 - Preformance Night--
What do you say about preformance night. Well, I say I love it. The kids are great! They are cute, beautiful and talent, I love them every one.
Our small part in this night. Okay, one of my friends taught a class about disabilities. And so on preformance night my 2 other children stood up there with their brother and said the verses Luke 14: 21 & 23. They will do this tonight at the Luke 14 dinner at our church.
Then ds with autism was in children's choir...he sung the songs on the way to church...then stood up there with his hands over his ears the whole time. YEAH! One day he will talk and interact with everyone and we will wish he would take a break from that....One day.
And dd, this was her first violin rectial. We weren't really sure what to expect. I love her attitude. Being infront of people doesn't bother her...she loves it. She did really good. It was funny.
Then the best part, I have two friends that are very dear to my heart and I love to see them singing in the adult choir... they were awesome.
Here are some pictures.

Apr. 17, 2009 - Our Field Trip
This week we wrapped up Unit 2 in Biology. We have been studing plants, trees, plant reproduction, etc. This was a good unit. Here are some pictures from our hike.
On this hike I gave the kids an oral quiz and I was impressed at what they remembered. Ds thinks that God's design is cool because we need the trees and they need us.

Apr. 15, 2009 - What I love about schooling at home
Sometimes in life I reflect on certain things. Here lately I have been thinking about homeschooling and how I love the flexibility and that everyone is different. I love hearing about how people homeschool...I love the flexible schedule and how I can modify a curriculum to meet my kids learning styles.
I thought I would take some pictures today as we were doing history. This is how we spend our group learning time:

Apr. 14, 2009 - Easter
One of the greatest things I remember from being a kid was our traditions. So, my dh and I have started a few traditions of our own. One of the things that we do at Easter is give presents to the kids. And we talk about how God's greatest present to us is His Son Jesus Christ. And we talk about how Jesus gave us a gift that we could never get on our own.
This year we got the kids old movies..."The Absent Minded Professor and The Son of Flubber", and they also got squirt gun's and chocolate .

Mar. 31, 2009 - March madness has a whole new meaning
March came in like a lamb and left like a lion. It's seems I turned around and March was over.
In March we always test at our umbrella school over a period of 3 days. Our umbrella school is an hour one way...so it makes for a long drive.
On the last day of testing we went on a level none stress full hike...that was fun. The next day we went to a local bounce house with friends. I only took one picture from that day. It is one where my df always helps my ds with autism start sliding. Once you get him started he is fine...

Feb. 24, 2009 - Our Valentines Day
First, let me say my husband was very thoughtful....
We had my parents keep the kids and we went to the movies and out to a local resturant and ate. We saw Taken...whew! it is intense and good. But, really children should not watch that.
Then I thought we were going home...and we pulled into a very nice hotel. Wow! how cool right. Thoughtout the day my husband had not been feeling well. He came down with a very high fever and was asleep by 9.
Then it turns out he had the flu. Then I had the flu. Then 2 out of 3 kids had the flu....
But, I love my husband that was the sweetest thing he has done for me. And I appreciate it greatly.

Feb. 5, 2009 - Violin lessons
My daughter has requested since she was 4 to play the violin. Now that she is 7 I learn that we should have started her at 4. Ugh!
But she has started and she loves it. We both have a lot to learn about it but I love that I never have to get after her to pratice and she tries her best.

Jan. 26, 2009 - I am fighting the "I should do more bug"
Not all the time but some time I get the "I should be doing more bug."
I know that we have a full schedule and that we have a plan that we are following (well-trained mind). But, occassionally, it seems as we are not doing enough. Gosh! I hate that feeling. I have come to determine that it is a feeling. And maybe an attack from satan to discourage me and steal my joy.
So I have come to the conculsion that when I get the "bug" I am going to sing and praise the Lord almighty for giving me the strength and the courage to homeschool and Thank Him because He provides all that we need.
We are finally getting back into a routine and I have thrown some new things in the mix to add new adventure. For example we cook together every Friday now. And I am making sure that we do one art project a week now.
So this has created excitment. And excitment creates smiles while we are learning.

Jan. 15, 2009 - January (Back to School)
We started back to school. For us it is so hard to go from a long break to back to school. I don't really understand why, I wonder if we become lazy durning our time off. Or spoiled with playing with our toys (me included) and getting to sleep in.
I often wonder if I should keep getting them up at the same time when we are on break. But lets just face it...I don't want to get up either.
I have to figure out an easier transition back to school, because this was not smooth.

Dec. 12, 2008 - DD's Birthday
I cannot believe that DD is 7! Where does the time go. I can remember when we thought she would never grow hair. (LOL)
Here are some pictures from her birthday, and Thanksgiving. My parents also celebrated their 48th Wedding Anniversay in November. I am so very thankful for my parents and the way they raised us. We could ask any question and they would answer us honestly and at times gently depending on the question. It is my hope that my children will look on my dh and I the way I veiw them.

Dec. 12, 2008 - November -- a blur
Wow, the year is almost over and I don't know where the time went...I just really don't know.
We have picked up one more therapy so we have been gone 4 out of 5 days. And this therapy is a 3 hour round trip...I don't know if it is worth the cost.
We were wrapping up coop...the kids in my speech class presented an interpurtive speech from the book "The Story of Baby Jesus" by Alice Joyce Davidson . They did an excellent job.
Thanksgiving was (as usually) a really busy time. Traveling wears me out. Here is the kids Thanksgiving picture. We are so very blessed.

Nov. 1, 2008 - Self Help Skills
Mom's do....all the time. We make breakfast, do laundry, clean rooms, and we do all of this with out thinking. This year for science we have been going through Christian Kids Explore Chemistry, we have just finished the chapters on bases and acids. Then it struck me, if they have the concept of bases and acids then they can clean their bathroom. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had heard my sister complain for years about boys and toilets...now I know first hand what she means. So I worked with our oldest ds and taught him how to clean the bathroom. No, I did not take a before picture that would be way to embarrassing.
I think at the end he was proud of what he had accomplished. Hopefully now knowing what it is like he will help keep it clean. I taught him about saftey, wearing gloves and using the right tools. It was fun. Oh yeah he also did a load of laundry. Before you know it we will all be working to keep this house clean and it will not be 5 messing and 1 cleaning. Those odds just do not work.

My dh made Darth's mask out of cardboard, and the blaster for Han's is also made out of cardboard. I made the cape with dh's help. This year was a lot of fun.

Today our local support group had a fall festival with pumpkin painting, bounce house, and house rides.
DD loved the horse rides...she want's be a cowgirl durning the day and a ballerina at night LOL! Ds with autism was on the slide the whole time. The kids had a great time we saw lots of friends that we have not seen in a while and it is always uplifting to see smiling faces. When they email me the pictures I will post them.
