Hindrances in Prayer
By: Brenda J. Robinson from her daily devotional entitled: A New Desire p.126
Wrath and doubting are major hindrances in our prayer lives. Today's Scripture text says ((1 Timothy 2:8)), "I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." Knowing this, we must conquer what defeats us.
We conquer wrath and doubting by coming to the Lord in confidence and humility with a complete and willingness to surrender ourselves to God. God bestowed upon us, in the book of Psalms, the keys to communicating with Him. We find in Psalms three keys to effective communication with God through prayer. Those keys are openness, sincerity and honesty with God. These three attributes make our prayers priceless to God.
Don't let feelings of defeat defeat you. Place your feelings in the hands of your Heavenly Father; He already knows all about them. God can free you from guilt and hindrances of your feelings if you'll confess them to Him. David said in Psalm 139:23-24, "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
Your prayer life is the most essential part of an intimate relationship with God. It is the water for your spiritual growth. Without water, all things begin to wither and fade away. Your relationship with God is no different.
We serve the same God David did, and we can talk to Him as openly , frequently and freely as David did. Don't be defeated in your prayer life by trying to hide things from God. Live David, make your prayer life one of consistence confidence and courage.
"Place your feelings in the hands of your Heavenly Father; He already knows all about them."
