Reflecting His Grace

Wednesday, April 4 "Your Opinion Counts!- What Girls Say About Modesty"

I wanted to let you gals that are feeling wierd because you are modest even if your friends aren't to know that you are not alone. I polled a few friends and adults I respect, and here is what I found:

One friend said: I define modesty as not only watching how you're modest with your behavior or body but also with your language and actions. [[Not that we're all always modest that way]] There's really a thin line between modesty and impurity I guess would be a way to put it. Modesty with your attitude and body are probably the two most important types of modesty to me. Your behavior reflects what others think of you, and a modest and reserved behavior tells a lot about you. Modesty with your body is probably the second most important type. What you display of your body is important with us teenagers. Girls like to display themselves as "sexy", and thats not always telling guys the right thing, and affects them to impurity as well.

Another friend told me: Modesty is a way to glorify God. When people are modest, it shows that the person who is being modest is classy and not trashy. The reason we are supposed to be modest is to honor God and obey His Word. Also, when girls dress immodestly it causes temptation for the guys (which is wrong) and we should do our best to not tempt our brothers in Christ or anyone for that matter!! (Plus girls can still look cute without being immodest.)

A relative of mine, an adult, said: There are two extremes:

-Victorian-covered up to neck, to the wrist and to the ankles. Long gone!

-Modern-(for girls) see too much stomach, too much back (down to crack), see too much leg-can't sit down without showing panties-can't walk up stairs without others being able to see up skirt, see too much breast displayed..

-(for boys) pants, entirely too baggy and too largeand worn too low down. shirts, too long and too big.

Sorry that girls in particular want to show so much flesh, and be 'drooled' over by men and boys. They are inviting trouble for themselves and making a bad name for themselves...

Modesty is dressing with the idea of looking good in their clothes. Their parents and family are proud of the modest dressing. You can get further with a better reputation with modest dressing and acting.

One of my friends put her thoughts into one simple yet quiteexplanatory sentence: Modesty is not exposing yourself in an inapropriate way.

There are other quotes and such that I am going to save until next week. I know that this entry is a little long, so I will keep this short and to the point. If you feel that no one cares about modesty, think again. You may not even realize it, but you probably notice whether clothes are modest or not. I hope these quotes have encouraged you as much as they have influenced me!

Another of my friends thinks: I think that modesty in clothing is no cleavage and no minis! And we don't want to see your bra strap either!

Good post!

It's always nice to know that modesty is seen and appreciated. I forgot to comment on your last post, but that was a good one too! I'm going to write down the verse you mentioned to memorize like you suggested.
