Proverbs 31:10-20
Most of my regular readers would agree with me when I tell you I have trouble staying on topic sometimes. I’m bad about chasing rabbits, and getting off track. Today, I’m going to keep it simple. (I know, I know. That’s pretty shocking!) Read the verses, and below the passage are my interpretations and paraphrases of the same verses. If you think of anything I should add to my paraphrased verses, please tell me. I’d love to hear what you have to say!
10 A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
Here is my interpretation of the above verses…
V. 10- An excellent wife is a rare thing, and very precious. She is worth more than even the finest gemstones.
V. 11- She is trustworthy in the eyes of her husband, and does not play games with his heart.
V. 12- She realizes that her husband is valuable and does her best to please him.
V. 13- She does not minding working with her hands.
V. 14, 15- She provides food for her family, and will go to great lengths to furnish her table with food.
V. 16- She makes wise financial decisions, and invests wisely
V. 17- She works hard, and grows stronger as a result.
V. 18- She takes pride in her work, and knows she did everything to the best of her ability
V. 19, 20- Her hands reach for work and she has evident compassion for the needy.
I hope that was easy to understand. I’ve read this chapter many times before, but never took the time to write down my thoughts about it. I recommend writing down your thoughts, not only for this passage, but also during your daily quiet time. I started keeping a quiet time journal a few months ago, and it’s nice to be able to read my old entries and sermon notes. It’s where I outline my blog entries. So, now I’m chasing another rabbit. :) Anyways, have a great week! I’m anxious to hear your thoughts about this passage!

That's really great...your interpretation kept the meaning of the verses, but sort of made them more relevant. :-)
And rabbits are cute!! haha
See ya tomorrow (I still have to do my photography homework...yipes. Mrs. M called and said that we had to keep it down to 10. heehee)
Love,

When I was nine I started my own illustrated book of Proverbs 31 verses 10-the end. On each page
I wrote out a verse and then drew a picture showing a girl doing what the verse said. I didn't finish it until I was almost thirteen. I would encourage everyone else to do the same, this really helped me think through each verse and ways to put them in practice.

I agree, writing down your thoughts and what God reveals to you about Scriptures is a good idea!
One thing I'd like to add -- this is something I didn't see until maybe a year or so ago, but it is very relevant for me: Verse 12, "she does him good and not evil ALL THE DAYS OF HER LIFE." That means that now, before we even know our husbands, "all the days of our life," we are to be seeking his good. In our decisions about modesty and purity, in our relationships with other guys... we should remember our future husbands and what effect this could have on him and our relationship with him in the future.
Hope that makes sense. It was a great truth for me to realize, so I hope maybe it will encourage someone else, too. :-)
God bless!
