Our Trip to Camp du Nord ~ Ely, Minnesota
• Jun. 4, 2008 - German - The Learnables
We've been studying German using the Muzzy Language Course, along with various books and dictionaries. The boys like Muzzy, and have fun with the lessons. Today, I gave them the opportunity to watch something on TV while I cleaned up the kitchen and got laundry going...and they chose Muzzy!
Next year, I think we need to add a program that offers some more concrete lessons, and a method for measuring progress. I think that program is going to be The Learnables foreign language course.
I like the fact that it is an immersion method, and it involves lessons on the computer along with book lessons. We can either do the lessons together, or Harper can work on them alone while I spend some time with Hawken. We work at our own pace, with a minimum of three, half-hour sessions per week.
I've heard only good things about this program so far, and it is recommended by several homeschooling experts, including Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy.
Also, I can't beat the price; $100 for everything we need to complete level one. Each year/level is equivalent to one year of high school. However, kids can begin these lessons as an elementary student.
