Urban Cottage Homeschool Moments

Our Trip to Camp du Nord ~ Ely, Minnesota

• Jun. 6, 2008 - BOOK IT!

I registered Harper and Hawken for the BOOK IT! reading program sponsored by Pizza Hut.  The program runs October through March next year.

As the teacher, I will set a monthly reading goal for each of the boys - this can can be measured by number of books, number of pages, or number of minutes read each month.  With Hawken, I can also create a goal representing the books I read to him.

Once the kids reach their montly reading goal, they are rewarded with a free, one-topping personal pan pizza, BOOK IT! card, clip and sticker.  Each month they reach their goal, they'll receive a pizza and a sticker.  Kids who reach their goal in all six months of the program will receive an "All Star Reader Award" from Pizza Hut.  (I'm not sure what the award is, but any type of award is fun for the boys.)

I should receive a tracking chart and reproducibles in the mail in a few months.  There is a Pizza Hut a few blocks away from our house, so we'll be able to walk or ride bikes there once a month for a special lunch.

The boys have already decided what kind of pizza they will get!  Hawken will order a cheese pizza, and Harper will get green olives on his.

I signed Tyler up for this too! We participated through the virtual school when he was in Kindergarten, but this year we had a different "teacher" who didn't offer it. We really enjoyed it! I think its cool that they are offering it for homeschoolers!
Good luck, Harper and Hawken! Enjoy your pizzas!

About Us

Hi, and welcome to our blog! We're creating a love of learning with two creative, fun-loving boys. We use an eclectic approach to learning with Sonlight curriculum, Charlotte Mason ideals, and whatever else works for us along the way. The purpose of our blog is keep friends and family updated on our family-happenings, as well as give others a peek into our approach to learning. I also use it as a source of record-keeping, and a place to keep track of my random thoughts. If you have a moment, please leave us a comment. We love to know who's reading the blog. Thanks for visiting!
