Miriam the Brave

We have discovered that we have quite a population of wolf spiders in this home.  Before moving to Ohio, I'd never even heard of a wolf spider, so for those of you out there wondering what they are, I'll fill you in a bit.  Picture a tarantula - now shrink it to about half its size.  That's how it looks.  They stay on the ground and will actually come running at people to attack them.  Okay, now that you know how truly intimidating these little creatures are:

Suddenly the children started screaming.  "SPIDER!  MOMMY, THERE IS A SPIDER!  HELLLLLLLLLLLLP!"  Miriam (3) and I both came running.  Yes, indeed, there was another wolf spider, this one about half the size of my palm.  I started moving the small bookcase out of the way so as to be able to get the spider.  Miriam ran from the room.  A moment later she was back with a napkin in her hand.  She squatted down, squished the spider, stood up and examined the parts in the napkin to make sure it was dead, and proudly remarked, "Got it!"  Goooooooooooooooooooooooooo Miriam!  The other children (10, 8, 6, 4) all stood there looking at her with absolute awe.  She earned the nickname Miriam the Brave.

Love, Dawn

Hip Hip Hooray for Miriam the Brave!
Clanclave has been dealing with Wolf Spiders too on her blog! Although, they eat the southern roaches, so she is having a hard time killing her roach exterminators.

Great story.

Yep, we get them all the time. It happens especially when we start moving stuff and they are also attracted to the wood on the front of our house. I know God made them but I find spiders, any spiders, to be about the scariest things on earth. Go Miriam :) I wouldn't have done it.
