A Life in the Day...

15 May 2009 - Making Homemade...

A Life in the Day of... Being Suzy Homemaker.

I had forgotten how much I enjoy making things myself, instead of buying them.  Yesterday, I remembered!

I had some pinto beans soaking with the intention of making my delicious Mexican Bean Soup... and I got to thinking, "mmm... I'd like some homemade refried beans and homemade flour tortillas."

I had made enough beans for a BIG pot of soup, so I took some of those beans and fried them in a pan.  Then, I set out to make the flour tortillas.

I was out of shortening. " OK," I thought. "I'll use vegetable oil."  I was out of that, too.  Hmmm.... I was also out of stick butter... so, I decided to try using margerine, which was the only thing I had left that I could try.

Although I felt a bit frustrated about not finding all the ingredients I needed, the tortillas actually turned out well.  The Kids & I enjoyed them with the refried beans.  Mmmm-mmmm!

Needless to say, I ran to the grocery store this afternoon.

Now-- I think I'll make some homemade baby wipes!

20 March 2009 - Me & My Sewing Machine...

A Life in the Day of... Learning Something New

I felt such joy last night, after hours of trying to "figure out" my sewing machine (no-- I don't know how to sew-- YET!  I'm LEARNING!).  Well, I finally figured out how to wind a bobbin, how to thread the machine, how to load the bobbin (and FASTEN the bobbin case in!), and how to adjust the machine to make several different kinds of stitches!  Yay!

After so much frustration and focus, I was tired... but it felt good to learn something new!  And soon (maybe tomorrow!) I will start on my first project:  a tote bag with pockets.

I'll let you know how that works out.

12 March 2009 - I'm sick... but Grateful!

A Life in the Day of... Gratitude.

Well, here it is-- 3 a.m. and I'm still up.  I put something up on eBay, poked around Facebook, caught up on some e-mail... and now, after nursing Baby & putting him down in his crib... I'm wide awake.  But that's probably because I slept alot today.

Most of today I felt absolutely horrible!  I was coughing and aching all over.  My chest hurt, my head hurt, my throat hurt, and my voice kept coming and going!  I'm so grateful for my Kids' help today!  My older Girls helped me with Baby and "did school" with their Little Brother so I could rest.  And I did!

They'd bring Baby in to me every once in a while so I could nurse him.  They even changed his diaper most of the day.  I managed to get up a few times, check on things, change a couple of diapers, get them to start preparing a meal, etc.  But, for the most part, I did rest.  And I'm so glad I was able to.

I've got some Great Kids!  I thank God for giving them to me...

10 March 2009 - aylizha first blog entry! what what!! :D

Hi all you other homeschoolers  my name is Aylizha and i am currently in 8th grade. I am also a rock hard Dallas Cowboys fan!! Hoolla!!! lol this is my first blog entry so I can't promise this will be great, good, or even fantabulouse! lol okay let's begin

Today started out as any other day for me. I woke up at 8:00 a.m., (okay that part WAS unusual) went to the bathroom and washed up while listening to my favorite radio station! :) Once that was done I went straight to my desk in our schoolroom and began my work. (Okay,. that also wasn't normal for me. I mean just the other day I got grounded for watching a movie before school! I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I mean it was Mamma Mia! One of the best movies ever!! But as I was saying..) For the day my subjects included, Math, Science, Literature, Spelling, Vocabulary, Geography, and IEW. WHEW! That's not even counting my chores and my random reading throughout the day. But tonight my day was about to go from drab to fab! lol Tonight we had a Bible Quiz lockin!! It's going to be awesome! and I can't wait! Oops, time to go. Until next time remember no matter how cool the movie is , it's not worth getting grounded for. Unless it has Orlando Bloom in it then that's a different story!

p.s.

Hey yall! it'd be rockin if you could leave a comment telling me what you think :D

hope you all have great day! :D

Okay so here's my first blog entry. I'm a sophmore in highschool (yay!) my name is Aylaia :) Hmm let's see...What's one thing I learned this week? Well apparently Mozart's first name was Wolfgang (!) <--How cool is that? I mean, talk about original! So yea, that was pretty cool ;) Huh, what else? OoOo how about a word for the week hmm? =D Okay, here's a pretty awesome word I learned in vocabulary:

--Xanthic-- of, relating to, or tending toward yellow.

~Looking at the enormous pile of geometry homework before her, the young girl immediately turned a most xanthic shade.

*hehe, oh, the joys of being home learned ;P*

Okay, I'm gonna go now, ttyl! ^-^

6 March 2009 - Napping Kids...

A Life in the Day of... Peace

The Day has finally come!  I think.

For a long time I have wanted my children to lay down for a nap in the afternoon.  Partly because I know their growing bodies could benefit from the rest, but partly because I need it!  And, until today, I haven't been able to get them to cooperate.

For those of you who don't know, I have a 3-month old boy, a 7-year old boy, and two teenage daughters (16 & 14).  And frankly-- I'm tired.  We've been homeschooling for 8 years and sometimes I just need quietness... peace.

Well, today, when my 7-y/o asked if he could lay down because he was tired, I turned to him and calmly said, "Yes you can," while deep inside I wanted to jump for joy because I had just put the baby down asleep.  Yay!  Maybe I can catch a few minutes of Peace!

I closed the blinds to dim the living room.  I pulled out a mat, blanket & pillow for my son and he laid down to rest.  My 16 y/o daughter was already on the couch curled up with a book and a blanket.  Wow.  So I sat in my comfy recliner and pulled up my ultra-soft lavender blanket and leaned back.  Ahhhh....

That's when the baby suddenly woke with a loud cry, the phone rang and my 14 y/o bounded through the living room saying (LOUDLY), "Why is it so dark in here?"

Well-- there's always tomorrow.

4 March 2009 - First Try.... Again

A Life in the Day of... A New Commitment

So-- I've tried blogging before; but I didn't keep it up.  I gave up on it because I got discouraged when I couldn't keep my commitment to blog daily.  Well, I'm going to try again.  But this time, I'm not going to commit to daily entries-- at least, not yet.

I do expect to blog on a regular basis, though.  And, I plan to incorporate blogging into my children's lessons.  (That should be fun!)

I have a lot to learn about this new endeavor, but I shall rise to the challenge!  After all, I'm HappeeSuperMom!
