Wow, I realized how long it's been since I've been on - hmmm
So I thought I'd do a quick update...
We had a wonderful harvest this year. Pantry is stocked very well, and I am soooo happy about that!
It is very rewarding to know that I don't have to buy many of the things I had to last year!!
School is going well. We are doing Linda Hobarts, "Mystery of History vol. ll" for history and it is really good. I think I enjoy it more than my girls! I loved studying the Book of Acts, and learning about the martyrs and all.
We are praying about a move up to Northern Minnesota to be closer to my parents. We have looked at a lot of homes and think we may have found one with 77 acres. It isn't a definite, yet. Just want God to be in control of this decision and neither my husband nor I are 100% sure yet on where He is leading. We will go up again to take a look at this one particular house and try to get a little bit better idea of things. If anyone out there lives and homeschools in the Minnesota area of Cloquet, Barnum, Moose Lake, anywhere in that area - let me know!
Lots to do to get ready for a move if that is indeed what will happen. Somewhat stressful to think about!!!!
Well, I suppose I should move along-
God Bless all of you out there! |

My daughter says it's time for any update.... As I've said, not so good at writing often. But, OH MY WORD...... Our computer is soooooo slow, I don't have the time to sit here for days!!! I've sat here for over an hour now and have only gotten three things accomplished! I just can't stand how slow it is. Yes, it is dial up, but I also can't bring myself to pay for high speed, so I guess I just deal with it - which I'm not doing very well right now!!! Ok, the only new things as of late, are: -My youngest daughter's birthday was this week and we went to the zoo for her day. It was fun : -) My little baby is getting big! -My hubby's birthday is tomorrow and I'm not sure what we'll do. But I'm looking forward to whatever it is! However, since I've been down here in my little computer room for the past hour, I imagine I should get upstairs to my family before they think I've disapeared!!! That is all for now, dear daughter!!! :-) (since you're probably the only one reading this!!!!! heehee

Well, it's quite obvious that I don't get a lot of time to blog. If I am at the computer, it seems I'm doing so many other things. Not to mention our computer is slower than molasses in January..... Things at our little homestead are rolling along... My daughter and I are going without sugar - we have been at it for a week and a half. I am missing chocolate more than I can say! But the idea is to rely on God to "fill me up" and not sugary foods. (Chocolate is my major weekness) :-) I have had to pray - A LOT!!! I have been learning about temperance lately - it basically means to have self control - you know: "Everything in moderation". And since I'm not very good at that...... That is what I'm working on right now with God's help. Just trying to put Him first, chocolate next - NOOOOOO :-) family next, AND THEN CHOCOLATE!!! just kidding. (Chocolate has to be in there somewhere, right?) I have a friend who feels led to go without sugar for a whole year! I am in awe! I realize many of you go without sugar all the time, and I applaud you. I'm not quite so disciplined! But we are working on it each and every day! :-) I guess the main thing I am trying to remember is that my Heavenly Father needs to be my everything, when I am depleted, I need to turn to Him; When I'm stressed out, turn to Him; When I'm grumpy, turn to Him. Turn to Him in all circumstances. And the 'no-sugar' thing is my way of discipling myself - with God's help anyway! But it's been nice. My middle daughter (the same one who is doing the whole 'no-sugar' thing) gets up really early - usually 5 am - and I get up around 6:00 am and I have my time with God. Then we've been making tea and bringing up to my oldest daughter who is my late sleeper! So this is a nice way to get her up. We spend some time talking and drinking our tea and then we start our day. It goes nicely when things have that schedule. I like it! Well, that's all for now. Please remember to be in prayer for our country. And for the abortion issue. Blessings to all- ps. It is my husband's and my anniversary - Happy Anniversary to us!! :0) |

Thank you for writing, Whitney. I guess I never thought about sharing my adventures..... Well, I guess the most important thing to say is that learning God's will for our family is the most important thing I've done yet. I am learning new things every day about how God wants us to be pure, holy, and to follow His word. As Christians, sometimes we just "get by" and think that is good enough. I guess I've always lived that way until we moved out here to our little house in the country! I have learned so much over the past 6 years, and I am so very thankful for that. I still have a lot more to learn, (!) but am enjoying every step of the way We live in an old farm house that we have fixed up slowly over the years we've been here. The move here was without question from God. He had to take almost everything away from us for us to finally listen to Him and follow Him! But it was worth it. We had to sell our previous house or we would have lost it. My husband had two failed back surgeries that left him unable to work. We lived our lives for ourselves and not for God, so I am extremely thankful that He intervened in our lives. We (I) had to humble ourselves immensely and rediscover who is in control - Our Heavenly Father!!! We raise chickens - we butcher about 50 - 100 every summer, and we have around 30 laying hens. We have also butchered turkeys, only about 10 a summer. And have two pet tukeys from previous summers that have escaped the death sentence! The oldest one is 4 years old! (this is her fith year) and she completely thinks she is a dog.... weird. But we also have 8 horses 4 dogs, a million cats, 4 rabbits, 4 guinea pigs (in my daughters small room) and we really really really really want to get sheep. (well, my girls and I do, my husband isn't too keen on it). We try to live simply, which isn't always easy. Although to my extended family, I suppose they think we live VERY simply! I don't think anyone really understands our views to homeschool, dress modestly, live simply and honor God. But that's ok! We love it and that's what counts. About 5 years ago, I started an organic and healthy foods co-op. It started with only five families and has grown to about 30+ families - pretty good for Minnesota! We try to buy only organic food (although we don't always....) We buy raw milk from a farmer close by and I make butter from skimming it. I have taught my oldest daughter to do it, so I have passed along the torch! (which was a monumental moment for her since she hates touching butter!!!) :-) I believe it is important to teach our daughters to be keepers at home. ( which is all I have - daughters.... but you moms that have boys out there - its soooo important to teach them godly values because some day they will be marrying our daughters!!! :-) I also believe it is so important to teach them to remain pure, to value family and God's design for families. And to always seek after Him. I believe it is EXTREMELY important that we take back our families - our children - and teach them the way God intended us to teach them, to mother them the way God intended, not to leave them to the world!!!! I guess that's alot already! I will write more later. God's Blessings to all! Jill

I forgot to add that if there are any mothers out there that have been through (or are currently in) a courting situation with any of their children, I would love to hear about your experience! My oldest daughter isn't old enought quite yet, but she is commited to it for her future. We have read many wonderful books on the subject and know a few families who have had successful courtship stories. I so enjoy hearing how God brings young people together and works in their lives! That is all for now. God Bless! |

Well, I guess I am so new to blogging that I didn't realize you are supposed to post! My daughters had to fill me in! :-) I am just hoping that somewhere out there is another like-minded Christian woman who enjoys homesteading (or would like to some day) and enjoys her children, her husband and strives to live for the Lord. Every day is a learning experience - an adventure. I am continually learning new things about being a Godly mother, wife, and child of God. If anyone would like to be "e-mail pals" I'd love to hear from you! HappyHomesteadingMom |
