"It is infinitely well worth the mother’s while to take some pains
every day to secure, in the first place, that her children spend hours daily
amongst rural and natural objects; and, in the second place, to infuse
into them, or rather to cherish in them, the love of investigation"
(Charlotte Mason, Vol. 1, p.71).
WELCOME TO SHOW & TELL, hosted by one of the dearest bloggers, Canadagirl. Thank you for coming all the way to my nature journal. Today I want to show you what I have been working on with my kids in our nature studies. I also want to encourage others to give this a try!
This is not the first time I have used our walks for my show & tell. This one is a follow up to show you how we are progressing. Last time I concentrated on my kid's efforts and this time I am going to show you my nature journal in progress.
It took me many days to even get the courage to start this journal on paper. You see, I am not an artist, although I used to love to draw as a child. I have become too self-critical. I don't have the patience for it. Or so I thought. Once I over came my fear and started, I found out how difficult it is to please myself, and so had to over come that obstacle. Then came the obstacle of thinking it was too hard! I was amazed. I ask my children to draw in their journals once a week. I did not realize how hard that is! This has given me a new appreciation for what I am asking of my children. I almost gave up this week. I find it much more satisfying to work on a computer, but I am not going to quit now! What would that be teaching my kids?
This is my nature journal on paper. I took a plain drawing book, 8.5 x 11, and covered it with scrapbooking paper. I plan to buy some embellishments soon.
This is the title page, so far.
This is page one.
This is page two,in progress. I have found it takes more than a couple sittings to get a page done!
Have a wonderful weekend! Jenn The Happy Camper, aka Jenn4him
