Show & Tell: Red -bellied Woodpecker

Posted in Nature Study
Finally!  I captured the illusive Red-bellied Woodpecker.  He is such a shy bird.  Every time I put my camera to the window, he would fly away.  It has taken me weeks to get this picture and even at that it is not very good.  He flew away the moment I took it  and there was no flash either.  All this to say, I am one Happy Camper today!  I got you little bird!  (By the way, I sat in front of the window for almost 2 hours trying to get this photo this morning! )

Good Job Jenn !!!! That is what you call dedication. [0= What a beauty this one is too. I wonder WHY they are sooooooo sciddish ??? I am sad that I didn't get to see that many birds up at our new house. I have to do some brain storming how to encourage them to come to us.

Blessings and ((hugs)) my SSiC<><

I am even more impressed, then, with this rare picture of the illusive bird. You are so patient, but the reward was worth it. I bet you could put this picture into Adobe Photoshop and make it look like there was never any window in the 'way.'
:-)
Even if you can't, this is a great shot!

Two years ago we had them in a tree at the top of the hill. We got to see the babies fly the nest that spring. It was so awesome.

Wow, my dedicated buddy! You sure go to great lengths to please your awaiting fans. So that's what you do with your time...lol. Just Kidding! Great Job. We can sure hear the woodpeckers in the trees between us and the river and I see one occassionally, but since we don't have any mature trees on our property, they don't stay long. I guess that ups the bar for me trying to get a good picture of a bluebird this summer

Great Job!!!! I think the photo is excellent, you can really see his "ladder-back"; so pretty. I have actually dressed in dark clothes and sat by my window being careful to not move an inch before trying to get a good shot! LOL Keep enjoying those facinating birds!

Jenn:

2 hours!? Whew!! That's one good picture though!! 15 days till Spring, I can't believe it. This Indiana weather teases us till I want to pull my hair out (but then I'd be too cold!!) Do your Poppets have cameras? (read: unschooling!!) Such a fun activity...I need to send out my poppets in the snow for some winter pictures.........burr!! Although, they hate the winter as much as I do!!

Have a scrumptious week!!

Two hours...oh my!
Just the other day two woodpeckers posed for me.
They let me get all the shots I wanted. I went in and they still stayed put!
