Freezing rain, sleet, more winter weather...

Posted in Nature Study
March has come in like a lion.  I was hoping for a lamb after the temperatures soared on Sunday.  It was nearly 70 degree.  Yesterday, we had a winter event, as they now call it.  I tried to get some photos of the .5 inch of ice.  Today as I am writing this entry, I see 2 Red-Bellied Woodpeckers enjoying the suet we made.  Oh what joy!  Of course, neither will let me take their photo.  I need a photo blind or a disguise for my camera.

Here is a little slide show for my father who lives in AZ and doesn't remember what winter events are.  (lol)  Sorry the photos are a little dark.  It's hard to take bird photos through the windows.

We're buckling down for 10 inches of snow tonight!! My kiddos are way excited - even though *I* wish spring was in the air. We haven't had this much snow in years. I have to admit, it will be pretty exciting.

What gun for the birds. We don't have any feeders up right now, we just keep talking about it. I am going to just have to do something about it. I do have a shepherd's pole still up in our little herb garden that we hang a finch feeder on. But that doesn't count does it. When I first started looking at your pictures my husband came and told me to look out the window. We had a plump bluebird sitting on top of that shepherd's pole. Notice I said plump, since my name is Robin I don't enjoy hearing people say "oh I saw a fat robin" hehe. We didn't get much snow or ice this past week. We were right on the edge of both systems that went through. Seems like all winter we have just missed the worst of the weather. Looking forward to spring! Thanks for posting your pictures.

I love your nature journal. So much info & wonderful pictures. :) I came across your blog through another gals blog. I've enjoyed wandering around. I love the flat boxed feeders. We have the usual ones that hang on shepherd's hooks. I actually need to refill them. I'm eager for srping to arrive for all the other creatures to come to life.
