Observations

Posted in Nature Study
Signs of spring...
  • Goldfinches are starting to change to their brilliant yellow.  We can finally tell the males from the females.
  • A fly was in the sunroom when we opened it up one sunny day this week.
  • Ants have been spotted.  (The battle begins. )
  • The magnolia tree is starting to change, just like when we forced a branch this winter.
  • Welcome Robins have staked their claims and are finding lots of worms.  Have you ever noticed how they seem to be evenly spaced throughout an area?  It is as if they have an agreement with one another.
  • Daffodils are sending up leaves, no blooms yet.
  • Spring bird seed mix was out at Wild Birds Unlimited. They add calcium so that the bird's eggs will be strengthened.
  • Ducks are acting crazy near roads.
  • A bunny was spotted in our backyard.
  • We had snow flurries on Monday.  Tuesday it was warm enough to be outside without coats.  Today it is cold again.
  • Grass is getting greener.
  • It's almost time to hang our hummingbird feeder.  We check the map daily!

We had a few flurries here this morning. It is clear skies now though. You know, if you don't like the weather in AK, just wait 10 minutes, it will change.

I'm jealous that you've already spotted a bunny! We don't always see them every year (probably because of our cat), but we did have a cottontailed friend in our yard quite often last year. I was just thinking about him today...

LOL!! Yes, I have noticed Robins being spaced out! And yes, we're on the roller coaster weather ride too. AND I just made the same observation today about the American Goldfinches, they look sorta funny don't they, bright yellow patches coming in here and there.

Happy Spring!!

These signs will rapidly develop as the days lengthen. Great observations, with a wonderful sense of humor. (-:

Mar. 30, 2008 - I actually saw a lilac blooming yesterday

Posted by HarmonyArtMom
We traveled down the hill yesterday to visit my mil and where she lives in the Sacramento Valley, I saw a lilac blooming. I could hardly believe it.

The robins have been singing non-stop around here...or so it seems. We have hummingbirds regularly at the feeder now.

Hold on Jen, it is coming. :)
