Another survival story... my Delphinium is alive!
Tiny green leaf buds on the hedge are in bloom.

The hummingbird feeder has been up and ready for a week eager for visitors!

And children are flocking to the fresh sand.

I'm jealous of the hummingbird feeder - my ds1 would be too!

I have a couple of compost tumblers that we made ourselves. We didn't want a traditional bin due the risk of snakes getting in it so made tumblers out of trash cans with tight fitting lids. We drilled holes spaced evenly apart around the top (just below the lid) so air could get in. I have one in progress of cooking down now. It's slow go this way though. To tumble the contents I just roll it around on its side or turn it upside down a few times.

Ahhh...fresh sand between little toes. (--:
I know they were happy to be outside.
The shepard's hook looks very much at home in your yard too.

I think if you get started now it would probably be ready in time to make a bed to cook over the winter. My results could probably come along faster if I tumbled the can more. I will admit to doing it only when I remember! I need to get into a daily routine. How big of a bed are you planning? Ours is 4x16. One trash can would not be enough (IMO) to put in a bed that size when putting it all together to cook down. We had to buy organic compost to put in ours because I had neglected our tumbler for so long. I forget how many bags we used. I am trying to remember what all we put in - I didn't write it down! I recall peat, compost, dried palm fronds all chopped up, green palm fronds all chopped up, bone meal, and powdered lime. One of those last 2 was because of our soil test results. I fully intended to write it all down and just let it slip.

I'll bet you've already checked these out, but I'll give them to you anyway ...

I really need to go read again. Composting is something I just don't keep up with diligently, but I really want to start making the effort.

Yippee, spring! We too are enjoying the beautiful weather. I know it's a bit early to say that it won't get cold again, but sure does feel good to hear the lawnmowers again, and sit outside on the deck with no jacket, and no socks!
