Our church is going through a study on a wonderful little book by Randy Alcorn called The Treasure Principle. I must admit, when I first looked at the book I thought it would be just another reminder of the whys and hows of tithing and giving. Great reminders, but things I have heard all my life. I went ahead and started in on the daily readings and have had my socks blessed off in the process.

Broken down into five readings per week, the book has both convicted and challenged Mike and I in our finances. This morning I read about the church in Macedonia. The believers there were extremely poor and yet they begged Paul for the privilege of giving. Why? Because they recognized the joy and blessing that come from giving above your ability to do so. Though we tithe and give, I can't say we have fully grasped the mindset of the Macedonian church. I pray we can come to that point. This little gem of a book is certainly pointing us in the right direction.

Jun. 14, 2006 - Summer reading list

One of the reasons I enjoy our summer break is the time to catch up on books I've let pile up over the winter. My list this year is an eclectic mix.

Godless - The Church of Liberalism - by Ann Coulter (I'm hoping our library will purchase this one...we'll see)

The Power of a Praying Parent - by Stormie Omartian (need to re-read this one often)

Charlotte Mason Companion - by Karen Andreola

A new Ted Dekker novel - love this guy's stuff...a bit bizarre, but extremely intriguing.

Women: Living Life on Purpose - A Practical Guide for Godly Womanhood in the Modern World

I recently read a review of this book by OreoSouza and was so intrigued I immediately ordered the book. The author's heart resounded instantly with my spirit. It’s one of those you read with a pen and highlighter in hand, trying to absorb as much of the wisdom from it’s pages as possible.

I will warn you; this book is not for the faint of heart. Mrs. Wright speaks plainly when sharing her story and God's desire for the woman's role. At the same time, she lovingly paints the picture of God's heart for His female creation. The author shares honestly her own journey "home".
