Dec. 7, 2007 - Happy Holi-Hanua-Kwanza!

OK, just one more "happy holidays" rant...then I'll stop...maybe.  One of my long-time Idaho friends sent me this great poem from the Urban Homemaker.  Thanks Michelle!

Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.
Why the Politically Correct Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a ‘Holiday ‘.
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe’s the word Christmas - was no where to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and Sears
You won’t hear the word Christmas;
it won’t touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace.
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your
‘Dream Tree’ Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday !

Dec. 4, 2007 - The death of common sense

Wish I could take credit for this one.  Guaranteed to make you think.

Obituary for Common Sense - Mr. Common Sense

My parents told me about Mr. Common Sense early in my life and told me I would do well to call on him when making decisions. It seems he was always around in my early years but around less and less as time passed by.

Today I read his obituary. Please join me in a moment of silence in remembrance because Common Sense had served us all so well for many generations.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who had been with us for many years.  No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as, 'knowing when to come in out of the rain,' 'why the early bird get the worm,'
'life isn't always fair,' and 'maybe it was my fault.'

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year- old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. His health declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when a person couldn't defend himself from a burglar in his own home and the burglar could sue the home resident for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little of the hot coffee in her lap and was awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

He is survived by three stepbrothers - I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and
I'm a Victim .

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Nov. 30, 2007 - WARNING: Political soapbox ahead

Apparently the Killary Hillary campaign thinks Americans are not the brightest sheep in the flock.  They seem to be taking the "sin first, ask forgiveness later" approach when it comes to campaigning, thinking the ends certainly justify the means.  I believe Nixon tried that already.  Where is Deep Throat when you need him?

The liberal news media is no better.  CNN knew nothing about the affiliation of the questioners they chose to use during the last Republican debate?  Give me a BREAK!  I just hope the average American sheep can see past the incredible media bias and make a well informed decision.

Stuart Shephard from Focus on the Family sheds some light on the current political jungle.  The Democrats attempts to camouflage themselves is weak at best and certainly doesn't leave them smelling too rosy.  Stuart hits the nail (or should I say daisy?) right on the head.

Aug. 15, 2007 - Excuse me?

Check out this story.

A Roman Catholic Bishop in the Netherlands wants people of all faiths to refer to God as 'Allah'.  Um, maybe he's from Neverland!  Apparently, he believes this would be a step Christians could take in making peace with Muslims.  According to his proposal, since we are all worshipping the same God, what we call Him is irrelevant.  WRONG!  Far from being irrelevant, the names of God hold significant meaning and are used in specific situations to call to mind what God has done.

Following their faulty line of thinking, why don't we have the Muslims call God 'Elohim', 'El Shaddai' or 'Jehovah'?  Imagine if a prominent Christian were to make such a proposition.  The Muslim advocacy group supporting the Bishop's change would be outraged.  Funny how the road doesn't seem to go both ways.

Dec. 6, 2006 - Homeland Security at its best

Every day thousands of people from Mexico enter our country in search of a better life. They do so illegally, crossing the border under the cover of night to avoid detection.

I on the other hand am made to run through countless hours of red tape, listen to endless tape-recorded messages telling me to fill out 50 forms to obtain the necessary documents to be granted the privilege of going to Mexico for a week long vacation!  Apparently being an American citizen born abroad presents a few problems when attempting to obtain a passport.

I must be verified with those 50 forms, as well as several forms of photo ID and a few strings pulled from a Congressman simply to go on vacation.  Does anyone else see the irony here?

Nov. 7, 2006 - Please vote!

Today, we as Americans have the opportunity to make a difference.  By prayerfully casting our vote, we will place into power the men and women the Lord has ordained for such a time as this.  Please don't squander this opportunity or see it as simply one more thing on your to-do list.  We have a duty as Americans and more importantly, as Christians to take this Election Day and our responsibility very seriously.  Despite the fact that this is a mid-term election, the tilt of Congress is riding on today's outcome.  Don't pass up the opportunity to make a difference...VOTE!

Jul. 6, 2006 - Political tonge in cheek

A local dj reported that tomorrow's broadcast would include interviews with gay, anti-war, environmental, pro-choice, flag burning immigrants.  When asked if there was such a thing, he replied, "Yes, they're everywhere and they're trying to take our guns!"  I thought that was hilarious!

Jun. 29, 2006 - God is moving in Iraq

I received this e-mail from my mom.  God is doing amazing things in an area the enemy has long controlled.

FORMER IRAQI GENERAL REPORTS VIBRANT CHRISTIAN GROWTH IN IRAQ

Retired Iraqi Gen. Georges Sada reports more Iraqi Muslims becoming Christians than at any other time in the history of the country. Speaking at both a private dinner outside Washington, D.C., and at McLean Bible Church in northern Virginia on Monday, May 22, Sada shared stories about Saddam Hussein moving weapons of mass destruction to Syria in 2002, his personal refusal to execute U.S. and British prisoners of the first Gulf War, and stories of what God is doing today in Iraq.

Bestselling author Joel C. Rosenberg had met Sada previously while researching a book and instigated his speaking engagements. Rosenberg said, "Sada told me that some 5,000 Iraqis have publicly identified themselves as new followers of Christ since Iraq was liberated, and that an estimated eight out of 10 Iraqi believers say they converted because Jesus appeared to them in dreams or visions." Sada reported that the Kurds in northern Iraq are particularly receptive to Christ and are converting "by the hundreds."

May. 4, 2006 - Was justice served for 9/11?

I believe in due process and a person's right to a fair trial.  As United States citizens, we treasure the rights and freedoms our country was built upon.  I have to think however, that the life in prison sentence given to Zacarias Moussaoui is taking things too far.  He has openly taunted the U.S., even the victims own families, taking pleasure in the tragedies he inflicted on 9/11.  Throughout the trial and subsequent sentencing, he has remained arrogant, defiant and not at all remorseful for his actions.  I have to wonder what sort of discussions took place in that jury room.  On what did those 12 men and women base their decision to give him life and not death?  I can honestly say I doubt I could have rendered an unbiased verdict.  My mind was made up from the moment they took him into custody.

I guess we can take some comfort in putting him away for the rest of his life.  He will face a far greater judgment down the road.  I just have to wonder if justice has been served here on earth.

Jan. 24, 2006 - The Debate over ILLEGAL Immigrants

I know that everyone is entitled to his or her own views and opinions, but sometimes those views just make me say, "Huh??"

The United States continues to fight a battle against illegal immigrants crossing our borders in search of a better life. Why wouldn't they want to come to America?  Not only can they make more per hour than in their own country, but we'll give them social security benefits, welfare checks, heck, we'll even pay for them to go to college!

There are groups around the country fighting for the rights of these immigrants.  While I do believe in their fair and humane treatment, these groups seem to be ignoring one major point...THEY ARE ILLEGAL!  They have entered our country under false pretenses, sneaking across the border, usually with the help of these special interest groups.  Now one such group in Arizona is actually handing out detailed maps of the Arizona desert, complete with locations of watering stations, to those trying to cross into the United States.  Where is the accountability here?

Don't get me wrong.  I understand that many of these people are merely in search of what we often take for granted - the American Dream.  I am not begrudging them that.  However, we need to find LEGAL ways for them to enter our country and earn the lifestyle they are seeking.

Jan. 22, 2006 - Saving the Innocent

“Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don’t stand back and let them die.”  Proverbs 24:11

The anniversary of Roe v. Wade is a time for reflection and hope.  The plague of abortion has ripped to the very core of our country, leaving women and families torn and ashamed.  I spend time volunteering for our local chapter of Birthright and have seen first hand how the choice to abort a baby haunts young women for the rest of their lives.  The fight over legalized abortion has become so intense, that we risk loosing sight of the very people we are trying to protect.  When an abortion takes place, two lives are ruined.  We are fighting not only for the life of that precious baby, but also of the mother.  Both are created in the image of Christ and both need our help.

There are many out fighting on the front lines of this issue.  One of my dearest friends is working in Washington to get pro-life candidates elected around the country.  (You can see the work they are doing at www.sba-list.org).  The battle over abortion is being fought on many different levels from the Supreme Court all the way to the local crisis pregnancy centers.  What we must not forget is that “Our fight is not against human beings. It is against the rulers, the authorities and the powers of this dark world. It is against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly world.” (Ephesians 6:12)  We may very well see Roe v. Wade overturned in our lifetime, but it will be a hard fought battle.  Our job as Christians is first to PRAY; to engage ourselves in the battle at hand.  This is a battle the enemy wants desperately to win.  We can and will stop him, but only by fighting the good fight.

Secondly, we must each ask ourselves how we can become involved.  We cannot sit idly by while millions of innocents are being denied the basic right to be born.  Abortion is an issue that makes God weep.  Are we weeping with Him?  Or are we turning a deaf ear to their silent screams?
