Welcome to Our House

Late Breaking News!!!!

Well, as some of you know, we are in the midst of one of the worst storms in Southern Missouri history!!! Starting last Friday night (Jan. 12th) rain began freezing on the trees and power lines. Here at our house, the power went off after supper. Of course, this means we also have no heat. So we bundled up and hoped for the best. Our church had an Angel Food Distribution scheduled for the next day. Since, I'm kinda in charge of that, I had to go!!!

All night we listened to the trees creak, crack and crash! I made the remark to Gary that it was lightning. He responded that no . . . . .those were the transformers on the power lines blowing! We woke up Saturday to a wonderland. The roads weren't all that bad, so we set out for church. We had to back up and go around downed trees and power lines several times. Miraclulously, the church had power! We proceded with the distribution and saw that the weather was not improving! We quickly packed and left town. We headed for my parents in Ava, MO.

That was a week ago and guess what???? We're still here! We are still without power or heat. Yet, we are thankful. We have no trees on our roof or house. Our meter-loop is still intact and waiting for hook-up. And we had a place to go -- my mom did not get any ice at any time!!

I also have a job down here -- at my folks' Income Tax Preperation Office.  I was planning to work/be here anyway. The girls have a sitter and Ginny is enrolled in a small A beka school here (Mt. Zion). Something else that happened this week: Gary's store is closed. Permanently. He was offered a job at another store near our house, though it pays a bit less than the Manager job. Still, he is employed!!

My brother-in-law, Adam has been busy with his Disaster Relief/chainsaw ministry. In fact, he was interviewed for the 10pm news and he was standing IN OUR BACK YARD! You can watch a video of the news clip by clicking here. You will see the story and can click "View Video" to see the news story. Sorry I didn't get any other pictures of our house, but we just weren't home!

I glad your house was not damaged and you had somewhere to go. We have not gotten more than a dusting of snow so far and lots of rain here in Ohio.

Several bloggers have been blogging about the big storm. Most of them have their power back now though. Hope you get yours running again soon.

Hey Genet! I couldn't remember you blog address so I had to go find it in the archives of our FlyGroup. Anyway, praying for your husband to find a better job. We went through that once. Still had a job technically, but in our case the paycut was 3/4 of his old paycheck. No fun. Hope Angel Food is still going well with you with the earlier dates and tax season upon you!
