May. 25, 2008 - Late thanks Giving Dinner

Today I

am going to do a real post, for those of you who have had to bare with TheLandOfPink's arguing and my beating her at it.

So, for that last three weeks or so my brother has been going out to a friends land in hopes of shooting a Gobbler (a male turkey) and we knew there was one out there, just for 70hours he hadn't shown himself. Until last Thursday!

At about seven O'clock in the morning. The way we have been hunting Turkey this year is, my brother and a friend went scouting on one of our friends land, found where the turkeys had been going, and located a nice strategic place for a turkey blind. (All that is before the season starts) Then, once Turkey Season starts you get up at 3am go to your blind in the woods (it has to be dark and you have to be quiet, so as not to spook the Turkeys. Once it is light and you are in your blind, you call the Gobbler in. (Now one really could do a entire post on how to call turkeys) Where we live you are only aloud to shoot a turkey that has a beard.
The turkey my brother shot, and I wish I shot, was a trophy bird, he had a 12inch beard, and the spur (in the picture below). was over an inch and a quarter long.

Then on Thursday, we had out late thanks giving dinner, Turkey, Gravy, Cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, THE WORKS, Now, I am not usual a huge fan of turkey, but this turkey was really good.
On Friday we had turkey noodle soup, and not a scrap of the bird went to wast.

After my brother got his turkey, he and I went out to see if we could get the Tom that my brother saw this turkey chase off. (A tom is a one year old male) When I went, It was cold and rainy, but I still saw three hen turkeys and a fox. When my dad went out he say a hen and heard the Young Tom gobbling. Bun, the hen was already going to him so he couldn’t call in the Tom.

BUT AT LEAST SOME ONE IN OUR FAMILY GOT A TURKEY THIS YEAR!

Well luke, I wonder if you didn't know this fact: the turkey has hormones that make you sleepy (its more like a theory of mine :-) Anywho, neat post. I'm glad that the war is over between you and Hannah.

Wow! Wow! Wow! That is truly impressive!!! :D
Your life sounds so exciting! The most exciting thing that happens in my world is going on 6 hour car trips every summer to Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Virginia! The second most exciting thing is a tie between new clothes, and sleep overs! ;)
Sigh! Its SO good to be back on the internet! As you probably know my friend and I dared eachother to stay off the computer for seven days! She caved in the last day, but I stood strong! Yesterday was the last day, so I am VERY happy now!
Well, I gotta get going! Happy Memorial Day!
