Aug. 18, 2008 - Sunday Bike ride
Ever just hop on your bike and just ride? Well, that’s exactly my brother Anthony, Sam and I did on Sunday after church. Only we rode between 20 and 30 miles......

(Above are the first mountains we came to, the one in the middle we climbed to the top of after ridding to it, and the one fathers on the left we wound up a ways behind that one)

(above: the vews from ontop of the center mountian) ( while we were at the top a Uh-60 flew by)
(the view half way up, the big green hill you see off in the distance, well we rode past that one too)

(
and this is looking back from the top of the hill, those three hills you see, the center one is actually a really NICE cliff, and it is described by every major explorer that explored this area. I'll get some pictures of it up close)

Looking up halfway up the hill
(above: some abandond bleechers, at an abandond field)
Ok, above, is what might just look like a regular, really big, 3ft long grass carpe. But no! My brother is standing next to it! Just kidding! It is a regular dead, 3ft long grass carpe.
It’ what we did with it that made is special!
We took the fish out of the creek (we were on a low water crossing, which is a concrete bridge only a foot above the water and when it floods the bridge is designed so the water simply rises over it.) and we laid the fish on the bridge so it looked like the fish had leaped out of the creek and onto the bridge. The bridge was in a small valley so we went to the top to look around and change a flat tire on one of our bikes. While we were up there we saw some one driving by, as they went over the bridge they saw the fish stopped the car in the middle of the bridge and got out! They took a few pictures, looked at the creek no doubt amazed at how far the fish had jumped out of the water, so far it couldn’t get back in. after about 20 minutes 10 or so people had driven by and stopped to look at the fish!
On man and who appeared to be his wife drove by, and the man immediately stops backs up, gets out, of the car walks around the fish with his arms out expressing to his wife how big it was. All this as she rolls her eyes and tells him to get back in the car. Let me tell you, it was pretty funny!

Above is a picture of a 4’inch long locus we found dead of the side of the road! It was really big!

We saw armadillows total, the whole trip (thats counting dead ones) Here in
Well about 4miles away from our house, still a ways out, (and we had already hear pigs fighting and squealing when we were onto of one of the hills) but as we rode down a stretch of road woods on one side nice plainsy grass on the other, we here really loud rustling in the bushes. So anticipating pigs (it was that loud) we stopped and quietly waited for them to show them selves. Wanting a good picture I got the camera out, but, to our amazement, no wild pigs came out, just two little armadillos. These critters are like little tanks, there is nothing stealthy about the armadillo!

Well that is all for now!

Sounds like you had fun. I'm sure you crashed that night :-). The was a good practical joke, except you pulled it on more then one person. Ah yes, the rolling hills. I know that Virginia has a lot of those. The northern states in that area have that kind of characteristic. God bless,

Hi! Not sure if this is the right place to post a reply to your comment my own blog (From over a month ago... Eek), but whatever. I'm glad you feel the same way about global warming. And you know what? I hate those new lightbulbs! It makes the house look hideous and it didn't save any money for us! In fact, our electric bill for this year was HIGHER.
Nice photos! I'll be checking out your blogs more often. Bye!

Are you SURE it was 20 to 30 miles, Hcarles?? You're quite certain that it wasn't more like 2 or 3, and you just ACCIDENTLY added a couple zeros to those numbers??

Well, if any of you doubt the distance, I will explain to you how the estimated distance (between 20, and 30 miles); is correct.
One location we stopped at along the way was a lake and very well know recreation area which is 10 miles up into the mountains (away from our house) There are even signs along one of the roads that tells you how many miles along the way. BUT we took a longer rout to the lake, and many other roads leading other directions along the way. (So, way there was about 15miles the way we took, and with the other riding we did before deciding to ride to the lake.) (Way back we took a slightly different rout half of the way back, which was a 11- or so mile ride back to our house) That is a accurate estimate of the distance covered.
Hannah, next time I’ in NC I’d be happy to bring a map and show you!
