Premier's Prayer Breakfast

I didn't want to tell anyone my secret plan, but i hoped, as we practiced our songs for the Premier's Prayer Breakfast, that i would get the chance to talk to Premier Ed Stelmach about abortion.

You see, in our province, the government has recently begun "delisting" insured health items.  Diabetes is a disease that is not covered - people still have to buy their own syringes and insulin (although doctor visits are covered) - but sex reassignment surgery was still being covered, despite it being an operation that is never necessary to save a life.  (Although some of its proponents will argue that these "transgendered" people have a higher suicide rate before surgery, it is even higher after the surgery).

So in all the hullaballoo, i was hoping that one big ticket item would not be completely ignored.  Abortion.  It hurts my heart and makes me sick to my stomach that my hardworking husband's tax money goes to fun the deliberate murder of unborn children.  I wish we could move again so that it would not be the case, but there are no jobs in New Brunswick.  (We've checked!  And will continue checking!)

In Canada, health is a provincially regulated agency, although the federal government does dip its oar in all the time to "mandate" "equality".  But Alberta would not be the only province to not fund abortion if it decided to do so.  And even defunding would not make abortion illegal (which i think should be immediately done!) - it would just mean that people like my husband and myself would not have to pay for other people's "choice" to murder their own children.

The pro abortion people like to talk about "choice" - but we have no choice in supporting it when our taxes are used to pay murderers and buy equipment for this completely unnecessary, non medical act.  Not only that, but we are trapped in a web of "health care" where all the "health professionals" are, if not complicit in the act, are trapped into toeing the party line and duped into pretending that abortion = health care, which it does not.  Pregnancy is not a disease, a baby is not a growth, abortion is murder.

So, finally at the end of the breakfast, i was waiting to slip through a little line of people to get back to my table, and the Premier was right there in front of me.  I saw there was  line of people, but the line just kind of dissolved, and my sister was beside me, and we walked over to him and i just said "This may be the only time I get to talk to you face to face while you are Premier..." and explained to him my thoughts on defunding abortion.  He took a minute to listen, and answered thoughtfully, about practical ways to stem the tide of abortion, about involving the federal government, political kind of words, but from his comments, i knew he heard me, and understood what i was asking, and that in his own way, this was something he was mulling over, not necessarily that he will do it, but that this was something that he had thought of - that abortion is so widespread, and it's such a cancer for society.

My sister jumped in with talk of ultrasounds being available, and i piped up about the younger generation being more pro life on average than their parents, and our minute was gone, but i was so glad that God gave me that oppportunity to speak from my heart.

I felt like one of the suffragettes or abolitionists may have felt, only i wasn't as bold as they were.  I almost wish i had just pleaded for an outlawing of abortion in Alberta.  I did mention that there are many many women like me who were ready and eager to take in an "unwanted" baby...  but defunding abortion is something i can see as a possibility right now, with the economic climate the way it is...

Please pray with me, that God will work in the hearts of our legislators and turn the tide of the ocean of indifference and apathy and lack of love that has led us to the place we are now...  And please pray for Ed Stelmach - God has placed him where he is for a reason, and if all he did with his time in office was to defund abortion, he would have saved many many lives...

Haven, your mother used a moment that she was given, for a good purpose, to stand up for goodness and light. I pray that what she said, will strengthen the arm of those in political positions, to do good things. I'm proud of your Mom!
