Yes, that is the name of the egg case in which the baby praying mantises are growing.  There is one in our yard right now and hopefully we'll be lucky enough to see the baby mantises when they emerge.

This is the ootheca in our yard.  If we are lucky enough to see the babies, I'll post a picture.

we found 2 of those last year, and wondered what it was. We had to go ask the bug guy at whatsthatbug.com to find out. Isn't it the strangest looking nest? We were never able to see it hatch though.
