Dec. 15, 2005 - Ritzy Chicken Recipe
But surprise of all surprises, lo and behold a change has begun in my life!! I feel like a new woman!! Yes indeed... Ever since I got married (we just celebrated our 4-month anniversary), I simply CANNOT believe how much PLEASURE I find in kitchen work!! I have found that I really ENJOY cooking, baking and preparing meals!!!
Yes, shocking I know.I'm sure that much of it has to do with the fact that Travis is always sooooo extremely grateful for and excited about anything I make! Bless his cute little ol' heart...he was just used to bachelor-style-Ravioli-cooked-in-the-can-over-the-stove kind of food, methinks.
I don't think it's that I'm making anything tremendously spectacular really! But he just can't help but be a sweetie.I'm also sure that there's just something special about a woman having her own kitchen to do with whatever she so desires. Somehow, I just can't explain why, it's exciting for me to prepare special meals for the two of us in our very own little home. I suppose I sound a bit like a newlywed, don't I? Oh well! I think it's because I AM! *grinning*
Oh....but I have to admit that doing dishes is still not among my top 10 favorite things to do in the kitchen. *sheepishly* Some things simply don't change. *smile*
Anyway, I wanted to thank brittanyrose for posting a wonderful Southwest Beef Steak recipe! I thought I'd share one of my favorites here as well. It was one of our most popular specials we used to serve back when I was a waitress at a cute little victorian Christian tea room in Wichita, Kansas called the Riverside Cup of Tea. After countless customer (and employee) requests, they finally came out with a cookbook of some of their greatest recipes and this favorite dish was among them!
1 1/2 rolls Ritz Crackers
1 stick margarine or butter
2 c. cooked chicken, diced into bite-sized pieces
1 c. chicken broth
1 can cream of chicken soup
8 oz. sour cream
Melt margarine and mix well with cracker crumbs. Place 2/3 of crackers, crushed on bottom of 9x13 in. baking dish. Place chicken over crackers. Pour mixture of broth, soup and sour cream over chicken. Sprinkle rest of crackers over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 min. Serves 4-6
What other great recipes do you all have out there? I'd love it if you could share them with me!! I enjoy trying new things... (Well, actually everything is "new" for me right now!
) Also, does anyone have any especially wonderful Christmas dessert recipes?? I am needing to bring something sweet to one of our family Christmas celebrations this Sunday and I'd like to make something really great.
Any suggestions??

I've noticed that your book is often used in a classroom situation. How would it work as a Christmas gift for that special young girl in my life? Would she enjoy going through it by herself? I look foward to blogging with you!

Aunt Flossey,
Thank you for your question! In addition to the large group settings we have found that What Every Girl Should Know can easily be used in in a preteen or teen girls personal devotion time as well! :o) I know of many young women who ave greatly enjoyed going through the workbook by themselves as a sort of personal Bible study. Understanding that not every girl will be able to have a mentor to guide her through the book, I tried to write it in such a way that a young woman could pick it up and still be able to learn from it. If you would like to find out more about What Every Girl Should Know, you can visit our website at: www.heartofvirtue.com
I hope this answers your question. I look forward to blogging with you as well!! Thank you for stopping by. Merry Christmas! :o)

The Ritzy Chicken is out of this world! It really is a keeper.
I posted a beef recipe on my blog although it's not as good as your
chicken dish. You could of course cut the recipe in half and put in an
8 by 8 square dish.
I have Roast Soup on my blog as well, you might like it.
Thank you very much for the recipe here!
May the Lord be with you,
Susan

Wow, I'm so glad you all think the Ritzy Chicken is great!! *grin* I know I certainly enjoy eating it. I plan on trying your recipes out soon! (I'll be sure to let you know how much we like them... :o) I'm glad you suggested cutting the Poor Man's Steak in half... That's one thing I've noticed is hard about cooking for two... All the dishes usually make so much food and we can only get so much eaten before it turns bad or we just get sick of eating the same thing for a week! *grin* Until I got married, I had actually never seen a cake get moldy before... :o) Those things just didn't last that long in my house growing up with three hungry men in the house! *laughing*
Anyway, thanks again!

Hi Myklin,
I know I'm waaaaay to late to help you choose your Sunday Dinner Desert ... so sorry =( ... I do have LOTS of favorite dessert recipies if you are still interested ???!!!!! =) So what did you make Sunday ????? Please post the recipie and tell us all about it !!!!! Cooking something new is always fun !!!!!!!
Cooking for Two is sometimes I challenge isn't it ??? =) I come from a family of 5 ... so I've had to learn to cut just about every recipe in half ! =) I have discovered sometimes it makes more sense to go ahead and make the recipie full batch and then freeze half of it for another meal ... this works great too!!!! Anytime you want to swap recipies just holler !!!!! =)
Have a great day!!!!!!!

Dec. 22, 2005 - Jodi's favorite desserts? They sound GREAT!

Hey Jodi!
I ended up making Toffee Bars for the Sunday Dinner dessert... They turned out pretty well!! I'll post the recipe here next time so you can sample it! :o) I'd also LOVE to see all of your favorite dessert recipes. MmmmmmMMMMmmm... I'm getting hungry just thinking about them! :o) Thanks for the suggestions for cooking for two! I did make a pot pie a couple weeks ago and it turned out to be MUCH more filling than I expected so I ended up freezing it for later. Do you ever notice how some foods just seem to grow into some HUGE dish by the time you're done cooking?? *grin* Like the pasta salad I made last week and even used half of the box of noodles instead of the whole one like the recipe called for. It completely swelled up into an overwhelmingly ominous pile of pasta that just screamed up at me "HA HA! You'll be eating on me for a week and a half!!!"
And... we did! *LOL*
Have a great day, Jodi and God bless. :o)

I'm going to try the chicken recipe since it was a Tea Room favorite. I love tea rooms. Do you have any of the other recipes from the Riverside Tea Room? I'd love to try more of them.
