Nov. 23, 2005 - Allow Me to Introduce Myself...

Hello, friends!

Seeing as this is my very first post, I believe introductions are in order... My name is Myklin (that's pronounced "Mike-Lynn") Vinson and I am a 22 year old homeschool graduate.  I am excited to say that I have been married to my precious husband Travis now for a little over 3 months.  I am honored beyond belief to have the joy of being his wife!  I am simply overwhelmed and in awe of the Lord's goodness and blessings.

A Little More About Me...

When I was 18 years old I had the priviledge of leading a preteen and teenage girls' homeschool class on social graces, home economic skills, inner beauty, care for personal appearance, Godly character, etc.  This led to me writing a workbook unit-type study based off of this class entitled, What Every Girl Should Know: A Study in Love, Life, and Faith (which you can read more about and sample for free on our site: www.heartofvirtue.com).  It has been exciting to see where the Lord has taken things from there!

I was able to publish the course and began to lead more and more workshops and classes like the first one I did.  I have been honored to be invited to speak to young people and parents at various retreats, homeschool workshops and churches about critical issues youth face in our world today.  When we look at the young men and women around us it is so sad to see the lost, hopeless, meaningless lives that so many of them live!!   We serve a wonderful, gracious and loving Heavenly Father, but how many of these young people understand this marvelous truth?  That is why Heart of Virtue exsists... to promote excellency, valor and Godly living in the hearts of young men and women!  To instill virtue in the hearts of young women, to inspire young men to stand strong in their faith, and to encourage parents that their efforts are NOT in vain as they strive to train up their young people in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

My husband and I are excited to serve the Lord in this area He has brought us to.  There is such a need in the world for young people of integrity and character.  We humbly pray that somehow God could use us in this area to encourage and uplift others to follow Him!

Texas Life

We live near Ft. Worth, Texas in Travis' hometown.  I was born and raised in Kansas so it has been *quite* fun for me to be here and learn all of the new "lingo" and traditions that come with living in the Lone Star State! (And there are more than you might imagine!) Some of my favorite new things are:

Sweet Iced Tea

    • Did you know you can buy this by the GALLON here at fast food restaurants?  It is served with plenty of sugar and of course plenty of ice to keep it cool in this normally warm weather climate.
Year-Round Outdoor Swimming
    • Of course, this isn't as true where we live, but the first month we were married we lived close to Houston where it's CONSIDERABLY warmer.  I loved it when we lived there driving through town and seeing actual PALM TREES in people's yards!  Now, that's something you just don't see in Kansas!  I called my older brother Marc and his wife Nicole the other day to see how  they are enjoying living in Washington state after their recent move.  He told me they were enjoying it pretty well and that it was snowing as we spoke...  I laughed and looked around me as I was sitting in my car outside in a parking lot on a beautiful, sunny, 89 degree weather day with people walking all around me sweating their little hearts out in their shorts, T-shirts and flip flops!  "Wow." I said to him.  "It sure seems like we live in a different world sometimes, doesn't it?" *grin*
Southern Hospitality
    • Everyone here is so NICE!  The very first time I called a business here to ask a quick question about their services, I ended up talking for 10 minutes and had the most encouraging conversation of my entire day!  Be the end of the call, the sweet southern woman on the other end had discovered that I wasn't a native Texan and that I was recently married to one.  She gushed about how marriage is a joy and blessing from the Lord and that I will simply love it.  To which I said I whole-heartedly agreed!  And then she added in a kind southern drawl, "My WORD!  Not only are you just MARRIED, which is the most wonderful thing in the whole entire world, but you are also just moved to TEXAS, which is the most wondeful place to live in the whole entire world!!  You are in for a TREAT, dearie!"  I couldn't help but smile and laugh.  She made my day. No wonder my husband commented once when we were in Kansas checking out at the grocery store that the people there just weren't very friendly.  Afterall, the teller only told us our total and said, "Have a nice day." *laughing*
There's just something different down here...and I like it.

I will always love my beautiful old home state of windy, sun-flowered, farm-land Kansas, but I am growing to love this new Texan land as well.   I'm thankful for the differences the Lord gives us and grateful for the opportunity to experience new things in this great world He's given us!

So That's a Bit About Me...

I am simply a child of the King, striving to live by His Word and follow Him as He leads.   May God richly bless you on this beautiful day He has made!

I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes...

"I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I LOVE today."
