Grace...

A commenter at True Womanhood made this comment, it was just so profound regarding women who will submit themselves to a system which does not benefit them, be it "patriarchal Christianity" (Patriocentricity) or otherwise:

>>And now we see where the heart-breaking disappointment comes in. Under any legalistic system like this, a person obeys and sacrifices so that God will be pleased and they are all promised blessings and good outcomes for their devotion to the rules.

But then reality hits, and the blessings don’t come pouring in. God’s blessings are a free gift that come through Jesus Christ and are appreciated and enjoyed in full only by the one who does NOT work for them, but accepts them by faith based on the love God has for us. Not based on our love for God.

Am I making sense?<< written by shadowspring

Sanctuary...

~Crocus  angustifolius

"A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary."~Jeremiah 17:12

Do you think of the church when you think of the word sanctuary?  I listened to this sermon this afternoon as I was washing floors The Sanctuary of the Soul (Jeremiah 17:12) by TTB J.Vernon McGee
He referred to the sanctuary as in the place of safety, in the Old Testament there were cities of sanctuary where the accused could find refuge.  And how we as Christians really have no place of refuge but at God's throne....  Today I am thinking about how prayer can be the best tool to tie heart strings with your children.  Sometimes it is so hard to be patient and attentive all of the time but I keep receiving little reminders to keep taking it to prayer.

I especially liked the reminder in the sermon that when Jacob ran from his father's home after he received his father's blessing, that Jacob felt he had left God behind, but his first night from home was a place he ended up calling Beth-el "the house of God".  We truly can't outrun our Father's love.

Popular Love: Jeub Family Blog

Thank you Jeubs for a great post!  Popular Love: Jeub Family Blog  Such a timely topic for today, and the important subject of making sure we reach our children's hearts with love!

A quotation from the article;

"We home-schoolers are real good at building up the image of our homes and flaunt about how great we are. Our kids excel far above the national average and are getting such better education than the common folk....  ....Perhaps…because of the church’s empty message of love, we are faced with a popular culture who cry out the for real thing." ~Chris and Wendy Jeub, Popular Love from the Jeub Family blog.

What this is all about....

~On a recent family hike!~ :)

I just want to express a few thoughts about where God is leading us in our ministry to our children, and most importantly to their hearts as we guide them to adulthood.

We have just been seeing that we could really do better.  I can do better, this blog is about challenges for myself and an accountability not in a false sense, but I'd like to know that what I am learning, and trying maybe will help someone else to pursue the hearts of their children and tie those very important heartstrings.

Today I was thinking a lot about the endless nature of motherhood, a friend on a message board was mentioning how cleaning a room can become a little bit disheartening, when the little ones go in and have it messy almost as soon as you've finished.  I have also been thinking on the endless task of training children, schooling them, and discipling them...  It can be just as never ending.  And yet it does end, they do grow up, how do I stop right now, and figure out how to enjoy tying hearts together, when the present can be so chaotic?  This is my goal, to live my days differently with my children right now.

Today I picked up Managers of Their Homes to re-read.  I have read it three times before, had made an effort to implement the schedules I had attempted to make and tweak, but I was always failing to maintain my schedule, things would always fall apart.  I blamed that on the system of scheduling, but I am not going to do that anymore.  I have successfully taught my children and myself a loose set of routines, time to stop wasting our precious time, and make sure I have used each precious moment to touch and reach their hearts.

Today I listened to this sermon which challenged me down to my toes that I need to recognize anger in it's many forms as sin.  And that a spirit of anger was going to defeat every effort that I make in my home to gain the hearts of my children for Christ.  Listen to it here: Freedom from the Spirit of Anger by S.M. Davis

Today I read the first three Chapters of I Peter and it sunk over my heart that God has a high calling on us as Christians and I know that He will provide the grace needed, even when what is asked seems to us as too much to ask.

Today I gathered my little girls and made an effort to read to my girls before bed the first part of Beautiful Girlhood by Mabel Hale, revised by Karen Andreola.  In which she describes girlhood as a rosebud, which slowly blossoms in it's time and unfolds into the full bloom of womanhood.  It so happened that I had a lovely bouquet of dried roses beside my bed, some of which had been just buds, and others which had opened fully.  This was easy for the girls to see and understand.  I asked them if you can open a rosebud too early, what did they think would happen, and they knew, as they had tried to open flowers before they were ready.  As I am sure any little girl has.  I encouraged them that they can remain beautiful girls and they needn't hurry to womanhood, girlhood is a very special time, and roses are very delicate...  We talked about how sin could affect the loveliness of the future blossom, and that Jesus would have us just be little girls and enjoy that special time in our lives and see on the horizon that beautiful lady they would like to someday be, and let their choices reflect what that lady was like.

Tomorrow we will read some of The Princess and the Kiss   by Jennie Bishop and the Companion book, and hopefully a little bit more of Beautiful Girlhood.  Dh made a similar effort with our boys... I will have to go more into my thoughts about Mothers and sons next time....  I'd love to hear any input from anyone who has been there.   Bye for now.
