We Made It! (Follow Up on Pumpkin Recipe)

Last night we made the Cranberry Pumpkin Bread recipe mentioned in my last post for Blogger Friend School.  Gazelle and Ibis were my helpers.  Since the recipe and instructions are in my previous post, this will mostly be done in pictures:

Measuring the flour:

Cracking the eggs (Good job, Gazelle!!):

Stirring in the cranberries:

Two helpers (notice the lack of teeth):

And, the finished product (Yum!!):

Oh, they are adorable, and that bread looks fantastic. I typed a big long comment out to your previous post--but HSB ate it! I wanted to tell you that we understand what you are going through with the eye troubles. My middle son is very farsighted, but only has to wear glasses. My youngest is as well, however, he also has strabismus.

He's had 3 eye muscle surgeries so far, and we're praying that he won't need any more. The first two were done before the age of 2, adn the third was to remove scar tissue caused by the previous surgery. We have seen 2 different specialists so far, and have an appointment with a third in Nov. Our last one was wonderful--but had to relocate when her husband took a job offer in another state. She told us that the first two surgeries were probably unnecessary--which was such a blow.

We also do the patching, but Sam really resists it. Today was actually a very good day and he kept it on, but most days, it's a battle. What kind do you use? The "band-aid" type was a nightmare for us, so I bought some really nice cloth ones from this company in Canada. They are breathable and come in lots of neat patterns. Here's the site:

I agree that we are fortunate to be homeschoolers and that our children can deal with these things at home. I will say though--some of the worst people I have encountered were adults at the grocery store! I don't know why people think they need to make comments, but they can be so cruel! Sam didn't even know he looked different until some woman in a store made a comment to him. Ugh!

Anyway, all I really wanted to say that we understand and are currently with you on this. Sending hugs~

Nov. 1, 2006 - Hi Heidi!

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving an encouraging comment. Our daughter (10) has Duane's syndrome so we've been down the eye patch and muscle surgery path, too. Her next surgery will be in the spring, though she doesn't know that yet. The first surgery was so hard for her. She didn't handle it well. It's been hard to get her to wear all those various types of patches; our problem is that she does NOT wear glasses but I may go ahead and get the Perfect Patch and have her wear it with sunglasses. Amazingly enough, her vision is 20/20. She should be wearing the patch about six hours a day. Very difficult.

Blessings to you, Heidi. I'll be back to visit you again.
